Zachry Group is currently looking for talented and self-motivated Civil Engineers to join our Engineering Department located in Charlotte, NC Office. This is a great opportunity to get involved on challenging and interesting design projects for various industrial and power clients.

POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible in the design office for completing routine engineering and design tasks of the civil area of assigned projects based on specific and detailed instructions from the assigned supervisor as to the required tasks and objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform Civil Engineering duties in the design, analysis, and preparation of calculations, drawings, and specifications for use on the specific projects.
  • Perform and prepare civil designs and modifications of industrial and power sites for one or multiple assigned projects using civil software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D and Bentley GeoPAK.
  • Familiarity with codes and standards related to stormwater management, site development, siting studies, transportation, and underground construction on industrial and power sites.
  • Interface with customers, suppliers, and construction throughout all phases of planning, design, and construction.
  • Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications.
  • Prepare conceptual and detailed design sketches, engineering calculations, construction drawings, and specifications.
  • Coordinate with multiple disciplines to participate in development of plans, elevations, and basis of design documents to guide construction.
  • Apply basic technical principles, theories, standards, and concepts in development of engineering design packages.
  • Consider construction costs, government regulations, potential environmental hazards, and other factors in planning stages and risk analysis.
  • Understand and apply applicable building codes and industry specific standards for engineering projects. Understand and be able to determine applicability of local, state, and international building codes.
  • Specify civil construction materials for use in specific projects, and review supplier submittals and test reports from third-party laboratories.
  • Present technical information to peers or other personnel for review, to implement standards, or operating procedures.
  • Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications.
  • Provide Material Take Offs and cost estimates for materials, labor, and engineering to determine a project’s economic feasibility.
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university with focus in Civil Design Courses.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License or the ability to obtain.
  • 10-15+ years of Civil Engineering experience in the industrial or power industry.
  • Proficient with Engineering and Computer Software (MS Office, AutoCAD, 2D &/or 3D CAD, BlueBeam, Revit, NavisWorks, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley GeoPAK.
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative, transparent, teamwork-based culture.
  • Complex Problem Solving (STEM).
  • Critical Thinking.
  • Good Communication Skills (Verbal and Written).
  • Judgment and Decision Making.
  • Attention to Detail.
  • Strong desire to learn.
  • Occasional periods of travel to customer plants and construction sites.
  • May be required to work in an office, as well as in a power plant or industrial environment.

Must maintain active status in a drug and/or alcohol testing consortium

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License or the ability to obtain.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Employee will be required to communicate in person, via telephone, video conferencing, email, oral expression, and comprehension. May be required to lift, carry, and move objects safely.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Employee will work primarily in an office however may work in other environments including warehouse and in a trailer or building on construction sites. On construction sites, noise levels will be moderate to high. Job sites may contain the following: light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment and tools, people standing, walking, sitting, signaling, and talking. Noise levels vary and may include bells, whistles, and alarms.

Pay: $74,386.15 - $142,823.06 per year
