Job description
The City of Birmingham AmeriCorps VISTA program is focused on leading youth and engaging them over the summer to prevent learning loss, explore healthy futures, advocate for opioid abuse prevention, and provide economic opportunity. As Summer Associates, Members are an extension of the City of Birmingham's year-long Mayor's Initiative Program. As such, Summer Associates will work with Mayor's Initiative Members to establish programs and initiatives that will make a positive impact on the community. Summer Associate Members will be placed at partner host sites across the City of Birmingham Departments and Divisions. There are 40 AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associate positions available and member responsibilities may vary from site to site.

Member Duties : The Summer associates will be serving alongside the Mayor's Office and implementing curriculum from the Alabama 4H Cooperative. Summer Associates will learn how economic impact can improve quality of life. Summer Associates will aid in the alleviation of poverty through projects that focus on economic development, summer learning loss, drug abuse awareness, and food insecurity. Summer Associates will work in their respective areas to plan community service projects as a group that will reach students more susceptible to access opioids, encourage personal growth, and expose children to healthy snack options and activities during the summer months.
