LSSI is hiring a full-time Child Welfare Supervisor. Under the general supervision of the program director, or designee, the prospective candidate supervises a unit of child welfare specialists/caseworkers and child welfare assistants/case aides providing child welfare services which may include foster care, and services to intact families.

Essential Functions:

  • Direct supervision of a team of casework staff to provide an array of services to achieve permanency for children per the child/family service plan, policies of Lutheran Social Services of Illinois, the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, and the Council on Accreditation.
  • Supports staff, as needed, at: Court hearings; Department Administrative Case Reviews; Child and Family Team meetings; staffing; in-person contacts with children, biological parents, or foster parents; etc.
  • Transports clients as needed.
  • Responds to client emergencies as needed.
  • Assists in training casework staff to ensure they possess the skills needed to perform their job responsibilities.
  • Maintain open communication with the Program Director to ensure that information regarding both client and staff status is regularly reported.
  • Promotes working relationships with community organizations, churches, funding bodies, and other providers.
  • Completes and submits all necessary reports, billing, and documentation accurately and on time as required by LSSI and funding sources.
  • Commit to and actively participate in the Continuous Quality Improvement Process; promote the integration of Continuous Quality Improvement principles in service provision.
  • Perform other related tasks as necessary or as assigned.

Position Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in social work, or a Master's degree in an approved human services field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in social services (Child Welfare preferred)
  • A minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • State licensing/certification requirements as required by the State of Illinois and regulatory agencies, e.g. DCFS, DHS, etc.
  • Ability to pass required IDCFS Child Welfare Employee licensure (CWEL) as a requirement for ongoing employment with LSSI.
  • Submit to fingerprinting and pass required background checks, including CANTS, LEADS, Sexual Abuse Registry, Illinois State Police, and FBI.
  • Understanding of strengths-based, trauma informed interaction with clients.
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, comprehensible manner.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences present within the diverse client base served by the organization, as well as within the organization itself.
  • Valid State of Illinois driver's license and proof of automobile liability insurance & access to transportation to make home visits, and transport clients.
