General Purpose of Job:
The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is responsible for providing leadership and guidance to the Medical Directors and clinical staff in support of all clinical activities of Driscoll Health System. The CMO serves as the senior professional medical resource and provides regulatory oversight either directly or through delegation to appropriate staff. The CMO is responsible for the day-to-day medical administration of Driscoll Health System’s programs. The CMO must be committed to furthering the mission and vision for Driscoll Health System.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times.
  • Adheres to hospital policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines.
  • Collaborate with hospital physicians, medical directors, and nurse case managers in the coordination of care.
  • Liaising between Hospital Administration and Clinical Staff.
  • Oversee Clinical Quality, which includes setting expectations, monitoring performance, and leading physician acceptance of:
a) Patient Outcomes
b) Patient Safety
c) Patient Satisfaction
  • Recruitment and Retention of physicians.
  • Care Standardization, including partnering with administration and clinical staff to enhance operational efficiency and quality.
  • Physician leadership development.
  • Oversee peer review, credentialing, OPPE (Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation), and utilization.
  • Medical education based on gaps in clinical effectiveness, compliance and best practices.
  • Address Medical Staff affairs.
  • Change management leader/champion.
  • Partners with CIO to assure effective data collection and reporting for clinical quality improvement.
  • Develop strategy for PHM (Population Health Management).
  • Address the inherent conflicts between autonomous physicians and hospital goals.
  • Participate in evaluation of new clinical services.
  • Collaborate closely with senior leaders to accomplish these responsibilities.
  • Be an active member of the DHS Executive Team.
Positions reporting to the CMO:
  • Medical Directors
  • Associate Medical Directors
Education and/or Experience:
  • Medical Degree from a certified medical college.
  • A minimum of five years direct clinical experience in area of clinical practice is required.
  • A minimum of three year experience in medical management in a managed care setting is required.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • Valid/Unrestricted Medical License in the State of Texas.
  • Board Certification in area of clinical practice is required.
