The Opportunity

As Chief Information Officer (CIO), you are responsible for leading Abt’s global Information Technology (IT) operations, including cyber security, enterprise platforms, internal digital initiatives, IT vendor partnerships and delivery service excellence. You work to optimize core IT solutions in over 30 countries including the US, Australia, and Britain to enable operational information exchange across the enterprise with accuracy and consistency. You are an inquisitive, innovative, and proven strategic leader with a strong history of enabling strategic business outcomes to achieve growth. A strategic thinker with ownership of the establishment and execution of the enterprise-wide IT strategy and ensures its integration with the company’s business strategy and the delivery of all information and technology capabilities required to achieve business capability performance success. You will be a leader who attracts, selects, develops, and retains diverse, high caliber talent, always fostering an inclusive and empowering culture. Reporting to Abt’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO), you bring a current knowledge and future vision of leveraging information and technology in business model design, business capability performance re-engineering, product and service development, and support for developing a competitive advantage.

Core Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develops and executes an enterprise IT strategy fully aligned with Abt’s business strategy to enable achievement of Abt’s vision and mission outcomes.
  • Oversees the IT strategic planning process delivering an aligned IT strategy, IT strategic plan and IT Roadmap that catapults the company forward and drives transformative IT solutions across the enterprise
  • Acts as a trusted advisor to ensure all executive leaders can, with the CIO, make confident decisions about the application of information technology (IT) within business units and across the enterprise.
  • Supports business units and departments horizontally and vertically in a matrixed approach.
  • Ensures IT capabilities are delivered reliably, sustainably, cost effectively and securely. Ensures the IT contributions are delivered with agility based on changing business objectives, goals, and strategies.
  • Assists with Mergers and Acquisitions, technology strategy, due diligence, and integration.
  • Builds networks of people, technologies, and ideas outside of Abt, constantly scanning the landscape to identify partners that can provide complementary capabilities.
  • Provides leadership, coaching and direction to the IT leadership team and staff.

Strategy

  • Delivers an IT Strategic plan and ensures alignment of the IT Strategy with the Company’s enterprise strategy and actively oversees execution of the IT strategy.
  • Leads the development of the IT strategic plan and roadmap. Ensures integration with the enterprise’s strategic planning process, and the resulting business strategy and plans.
  • Collaborates with executive leadership and business partners to define and execute the internal digital business strategy. Participates in and contributes to the assessment of digital opportunities and threats, and internal technology capabilities required to achieve desired competitive positioning.
  • Directs the design and implementation of the IT operating model, organizational structure, and governance processes.
  • Uses influencing and negotiating skills to create synergies across the enterprise to enable cost-effective and innovative shared solutions in achievement of business goals.
  • Partners in the development of the IT sourcing strategy and provides executive oversight for strategic vendor and partner relationship management.

Digital Transformation

  • Provides executive oversight and coordination for internally facing global digital initiatives and transformational program. Directs and oversees the development and maintenance of internal facing digital platforms and assets, leveraging cross-functional teams.
  • Leads the establishment and execution of a digital workplace strategy that enables the development of digital dexterity in the workforce.
  • Leads the emergence of a culture of innovation and drive digital transformation initiatives across the company. Identifies opportunities for differentiating digital capabilities and solutions.
  • Build strong foundations for change by creating a “spirit of digitalâ€� throughout the organization.

Enterprise Architecture

  • Oversees the design of key technology solutions, standards, and next generation architecture roadmaps for the enterprise.
  • Champions research and development for new/emerging solutions. Leads the team in anticipating major technology shifts and develops appropriate contingency plans.
  • Oversees identification of opportunities and risks for delivering technology capabilities, including identification of competitive services, opportunities for innovation, and assessment of marketplace obstacles.
  • Provides strategic direction in the IT organization’s innovation efforts and role in experimenting with innovative solutions to take advantage of those opportunities in the fulfillment of the enterprise’s digital business strategy.

Global Information Security

  • Sets strategic focus and works with the Chief Information Security Officer to oversee global IT information security, risk management, ensure disaster recovery and business continuity planning processes are in place to ensure information is secure around the globe.
  • Ensures the team develops, successfully implements, and oversees strategic security operating plan, policies, and practices throughout the Organization.
  • Ensures the security of IT systems and ensures operations adhere to applicable laws and regulations worldwide.

Organizational Management and Fiscal Responsibilities

  • Collaborates and communicates effectively with other members of the leadership team.
  • Relentlessly puts the customer first and supports building a performance driven culture with a client focus while improving employee engagement.
  • Drives the development of enterprise technology standards, governance processes and performance metrics to ensure IT delivers value to the enterprise.
  • Manages risks through the effective design, delivery, and management of IT capabilities.
  • Ensures efficient and effective budget execution in accordance with the strategic plan.
  • Develops and controls annual operating and capital expenditure budget for IT to ensure the investment in technologies is consistent with the enterprise’s strategic objectives and is within plan.

What We Value

  • Bachelor’s Degree + 15 years of relevant experience, or Master’s Degree + 12 years of relevant experience
  • Bachelors and/or master’s degree in technology or Business Administration; MBA preferred.
  • Previous experience as a global CIO leading IT in an organization of $1-5B annual revenue is preferred.
  • Proven global, strategic leadership - 20+ years of relevant experience required, including 15+ years in a specific IT discipline.
  • Preferably five or more years of experience in a related industry; leading large, cross-functional teams or enterprise-wide programs, influencing senior-level management and key stakeholders effectively across the organization. Five-ten years of experience in government contracting (GovCon) is a plus.
  • Demonstrated capability in leading large, complex and or transformational initiatives (i.e., ERP, M&A, CRM, HCM) in dynamic environments and taking advantage of digital opportunities to innovate business models and enable growth of the business.
  • Ability to travel globally
  • Located in the Washington, DC metro area, with ability to work from our Rockville, MD office as needed

This position offers a market-based salary, a variable incentive package, ESOP, and 401K matching. This position requires US work authorization. This position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of approximately $302,000 to $350,000 and may vary by ten percent depending on candidate geographic location. Salary offers are made based on internal equity and market analysis.
