Chief Financial Officer


Summary:
The Chief Financial Officer will understand and model the mission of NSO. The Chief Financial Officer will understand and practice NSO’s policy on confidentiality in respect to all NSO information. The Chief Financial Officer will exhibit professional behavior in all facets of work at NSO. The Chief Financial Officer will exhibit teamwork with all NSO staff.


The CFO, or Chief Financial Officer, is ultimately responsible for the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of the organizations’ financial reporting. The CFO helps establish and direct the organization’s financial goals and objectives, its budget, and the Financial Plan. The CFO has primary responsibility for ensuring that internal controls are in place, enforced and reviewed periodically for conformance to accounting and financial standards and applicable regulations.


Essential Functions:

  • Record all financial transactions for NSO, and Palo Duro II using QuickBooks, which is NSO’s permanent accounting record keeping system. This includes all deposits for all cash and check receipts, disbursements for all vendor invoices by check or petty cash, payroll transactions and journal entries for noncash transactions.
  • Preparation of the monthly financials for the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors.
  • Preparation of all monthly grant/contract billings or other type of billing documents which generate receipts for NSO.
  • Request and manage reimbursements from other agencies, funding sources, and foundations as appropriate.
  • Serve as the main point of contact between NSO and the external auditor and coordinate NSO audit activities and responses.
  • Manage banking relationships and the check signing authority process.
  • Oversee the cash management processes to ensure proper cash availability and best practices in cash management. Track cash flow.
  • Maintain current information on the agency’s records and checks statements against invoices. Make certain that purchases are received before they are authorized for payment. Investigate any bills that appear to be in error or are unusually high.
  • Reconcile bank statements monthly. Prepare monthly claims for reimbursable services provided in the WIC state contract as well as billable dental services. Keep monthly records on all NSO’s financial accounts, Operating fund, WIC, Dental Clinic, Housing, etc.
  • Prepare annual budgets such as the United Way Allocation Budget.
  • Assist with all grant applications by providing the financial information request in the grant.
  • Maintain CPA license by attending trainings.
  • Assist HR in processing and approving payroll.
  • Supervise finance personnel (accounts payable/receivable).
  • Ensure compliance with the law and NSO’s policies.
  • Perform other duties assigned by CEO.

Job Requirements:

Must have 5 years of experience as a financial executive and leader with nonprofit industry experience. Must be a visionary and creative person with sound judgement and technical skills, analytical ability, and the ability to focus and prioritize multiple-and sometimes competing-projects. High moral and ethical standards are required.

Must be well organized and efficient, decisive, intelligent, and able to articulate well.

In depth knowledge of nonprofit accounting. Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods. Proficient in the use of MS Office and other computer applications, such as excel.

Must have a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, economics, or other suitable field of study is required. A master’s degree in fiancé, accounting, or business administration is preferred. Must be a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

This position is considered a safety-sensitive position and, therefore, exempt from the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Act.


Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Requires clear, oral, and written skills.
  • Must be able to lift, push, and pull at least 50 lbs.
  • Requires ability to handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
  • Requires the ability to work independently.

Working Conditions:

  • Majority of time spent in this position is in a well-lighted, heated, and air-conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation.
  • This job requires moderate physical activity performing in a primarily administrative nature. The work requires lifting of supply boxes in the medium range (up to 30 lbs.).
  • Occasional periods of high stress.
  • Regular work schedule is 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. including one hour lunch.
  • One can expect a moderate to high noise level depending on the level of activity in the area.
