JOB SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, performs rough and finished carpentry work to maintain and repair building and facilities in and around the Santa Cruz Seaside Company properties.

UNIQUE JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Wears company issued uniform. Works inside and outside in varying weather conditions. Works around dust and chemical fumes. May be required to wear hardhats, gloves, boots, belts, dust masks, goggles, and ear plugs as work conditions vary. Works in small confined area at times. Will be required to work weekends and holidays.

JOB TASKS (IN ORDER OF IMPORTANCE):
Level I:
  • Perform rough and finished carpentry work to maintain and repair buildings and facilities.
  • Read written job orders and determine the work to be completed and the method to complete each job.
  • Build and repair wooden decks and ramps.
  • Repair aluminum framed glass doors, panic hardware, closures and locks.
  • Repair, frames, and hang wooden doors.
  • Build shelving and storage areas.
  • Repair fences and hanging gates.
  • Replace broken windows.
  • Repair sheet rock walls and ceilings; hang sheet rock, tape, texture, and finish dry wall.
  • Repair various types of roofing (composition, shingle, tar, etc.).
  • Build forms, sets screeds, pour and finish concrete.
  • Install Formica counter tops.
  • Cut plywood from patterns including sign blanks.
  • Repair tile and grout.
  • Repair cabinets.
  • Read sketches and blueprints.
  • May operate company vehicles on and of site including forklifts, motorized carts and other support equipment.
  • Perform work safely and within OSHA general safety orders.
  • Document work completed and prepare reports.
  • Clean up after each job and keep shop areas clean.
  • May provide relief in other job class, be on call or do other work as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Level II (in addition to above):
  • Perform specialized finish carpentry such as cabinet fabrication.
  • Perform the most complex rough carpentry.
  • Utilize special carpentry tools to perform the most difficult and specialized carpentry projects.

RELATIONSHIPS INTERNAL:
All levels of Santa Cruz Seaside Company employees.

RELATIONSHIPS EXTERNAL:
Moderate guest contact, minimum contact with sub contractors, vendors, city workers, and Santa Cruz Police Department.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Level I: 2 years field experience, rough carpentry and construction labor
Level II: 6 years of field experience in rough carpentry and construction

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of rough and finished carpentry techniques used to repair and maintain buildings and
facilities and to build and repair decks and walkways.
  • Knowledge of framing materials and techniques used to frame doors and windows.
  • Knowledge of basic cabinet making techniques.
  • Knowledge of dry wall construction techniques.
  • Knowledge of roofing materials such as built-up/hot mop, shingles, composition and rolled.
  • Some knowledge of different glass types (safety, tempered).
  • Ability to use hand tools, portable power tools, table and band saws, drill presses and other tools.
  • Ability to perform work within OSHA General Safety Orders, follow safety practices and use proper lifting techniques.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written directions.
  • Ability to build forms, set screeds, pour and finish concrete.
  • Ability to lay Formica or laminate materials.
  • Ability to cut plywood from patterns.
  • Ability to repair and replace tile settings.
  • Ability to learn the use of various equipment and machinery including fork lifts and man lifts.
  • Ability to read and follow sketches as well as document work completed in a timely fashion.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Able to stand and walk for 7 and one half hours. Bi-manual dexterity.
  • Able to occasionally lift 90 pounds from ground to waist height carry short distances.
  • Able to work at heights up to 70 feet in a man lift basket or on rides with a catwalk.
  • Able to smell or detect odors/fumes from various chemicals.
  • Ability to safely perform heavy, physically demanding work; crawling, climbing, pushing, pulling, stooping, and lifting building materials and equipment.

LICENSES AND INSURANCE:
Valid U.S. Driver's License at time of hire.

TESTING:
Written Carpentry test: Trainee- no test required, Level I - minimum 65% passing score, Level II - 75% passing score

POST OFFER OF HIRE:
