Student Enrichment Services (SES) is Northwestern University’s (NU) office supporting undergraduate first generation and/or lower income students. New to SES is the Summer Academic Workshop (SAW). This summer program prepares lower-income students to transition to NU. In collaboration with SES, the VISTA will be tasked with reimagining the curriculum and evaluation of the SAW to reflect the financial and navigational needs that lower-income students at a highly selective, predominantly white, and wealthy institution. Additionally, the VISTA will support SES with our greater goal of connecting all lower-income students with the financial and navigational resources to make the most of their NU experience. The biweekly living allowance for this position is $675.08. In addition to the benefits listed, the host site will provide On Campus Housing in Northwestern’s graduate housing which includes a one bedroom, furnished and includes utilities. $800 Campus dollar to use at on campus dining locations. $500 for professional development purposes The AmeriCorps member serving at NorthWestern University will be part of a dynamic, motivated corps with Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA. Serving as a member of a corps provides the chance to connect with other members throughout multiple states, create a network of support, and to share resources. As the intermediary, Campus Compact, a national non-profit, supports the professional and personal growth of AmeriCorps members through a variety of professional development opportunities and in-person training including overnight retreats throughout their service year. Member Duties : The VISTA will manage the welcome of students to the Student Enrichment Services office and when applicable provide information regarding their questions/needs. Participate in the Summer Academic Workshop Planning Team.Support the co-director in the rebranding of the Summer Academic Workshop. Support the Co-Director in recruitment efforts involving participants and counselors of the Summer Academic Workshop. Gather information and report out about best practices for supporting low income students participating in bridge programs Review and report out on various data sets focused on lower income student experience and success. Lead efforts in exploring ways to transition the Summer Academic Workshop from the summer to the academic year. Manage Student Enrichment Services communication with first generation and lower income students and provide ways to improve our structures.
