Role

Under general supervision, and in collaboration with the Engineering Department to perform the design and drafting of right-of-way and record of survey maps, as well as construction plans for improvement projects.

Major Duties, Responsibilities

  • Designs and drafts right-of-way and record of survey maps using drafting software. Performs complex calculations on survey data obtained from GPS and conventional surveys. Interprets and computes legal descriptions for mapping projects.
  • Analyzes and interprets city, county, state, and federal specifications and guidelines for map exhibits and charts. Prepares and maintains computerized and conventional files, adjusts and edits survey data for accuracy, provides survey data from calculations.
  • Use AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and ArcGIS software to prepare constructions plans and specifications.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Associate’s degree in an engineering technical field (CAD or Survey) or closely related field.

Experience:

A minimum of four (4) years of combined experience and education in surveying, civil engineering, or related field.

An equivalent combination of directly related work experience and education may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-per-year basis.

Additional Requirements:
Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license without restrictions.

Knowledge of:
  • Land Surveying & Civil Engineering general principles
  • Common formatting of recorded land survey map and records
  • Business English, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and composition.
  • Clerical office practices and procedures.
  • Research techniques and report writing.
  • Current Microsoft Office software.
  • Filing and recordkeeping.
Skill in:
  • Engineering Software: AutoCAD Civil 3D & ArcGIS
  • Algebra, trigonometry, and geometry.
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing and communicating orally in a face-to-face setting and by telephone with public and employees.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
  • Organization and adherence to detail.
Ability to:
  • Schedule and organize assigned tasks to meet established deadlines.
  • Analyze problems and recommend solutions.
  • Research and extract information from recorded land survey maps and documents.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, representatives of other organizations, County officials, and the public.
  • Keep management informed of key operating issues affecting the department.
  • Remain current in knowledge required to perform assigned duties.
  • Handle confidential matters and maintain discretion always.
  • Act with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy.


Work Environment:

The work environment is associated with an office and field environment year-round in all weather conditions and may include exposure to loud noise, dust, fumes, mist, and chemicals.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Sufficient vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech ability to communicate effective in-person and telephonically. Capable of frequent repetitive movement of arms, fingers, and wrists. Ability to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, stand, walk over rough, uneven, and/or rocky surfaces, and lift up to 30 pounds.
