The role

Aspen is seeking a proactive Project Manager to work within our existing team to support the delivery of projects and workstreams in the Aspen portfolio, specifically for the Outwards Reinsurance (OWRI) Program of change activity. The Project Manager’s primary responsibility is to work with business stakeholders from OWRI & across Aspen to manage the successful delivery of projects and/or significant pieces of work from end to end.

The ideal candidate will have previous knowledge and experience of working as a Project Manager delivering change & large programs to the OWRI or Finance departments within the insurance sector. The focus of this effort will be centered on onboarding. Prior experience with MGA’s is a must.

The ideal candidate has experience within a consulting, insurance or financial services context. A high proficiency in working through complex business challenges and determining the root cause of problems is required.

Having an Insurance, Reinsurance or Finance domain knowledge would also be highly beneficial.

Aspen’s PMs are expected to plan, initiate and manage projects end-to-end. Typical project budgets range from $100k to over $1m (excluding business resource). The PMs may be required to deliver both Agile and Waterfall projects, working with colleagues across all departments in Aspen.

Aspen operates on a global basis and so occasional business travel may be required. This role will be based in either Jersey City, NJ or Rocky Hill, CT.

Key accountabilities

Participate in the delivery of the Project Portfolio, working with business stakeholders and the Change Delivery Team ensuring:

  • Consistent delivery to business and adherence to methodology
  • Alignment to Aspen’s Business Strategy, IT Strategy and end to end business process
  • Active consideration of business change readiness, enabling successful delivery of change
  • Work undertaken achieves a clean bill of health from internal and external audits

Successful delivery of projects will include:

  • A robust and structured approach to estimating and project planning
  • Communication of project work to the wider business community of Aspen as appropriate
  • Management of cross-project dependencies
  • Management of resource conflicts and bottlenecks
  • Management and escalation of risks and issues in a timely and appropriate manner
  • Ensuring that all Project work adheres to methodology, whether Agile or waterfall
  • Ensuring that all management and supporting documentation is in place
  • A strong commercial approach to working with third parties to ensure design, build and test will meet business requirements
  • Working with the Business to develop business procedures ready for roll-out
  • Working with training suppliers to ensure appropriate level of training is available
  • Handover of projects to Group operations / IT Service management at go live

Skills & experience

  • Degree or equivalent.
  • 4 years+ project management experience
  • Experience of the business implementation of change in the general insurance industry
  • Strong commercial/3rd party supplier engagement/management experience
  • Exposure to a variety of companies, working practices and cultures
  • Significant experience of working with Prince 2 or similar
  • Experience of delivering projects using Agile tools and techniques
  • Ability to work effectively at all management levels.
