WDP is seeking a qualified, full-time engineer/architect to work on our dynamic building enclosure team with specific experience in roof evaluation and replacement projects. This role will be based out of our headquarters in Manassas, Virginia. The ideal candidate has 3-6 years of experience in construction, architecture, or engineering, with significant knowledge in the evaluation, design, and replacement of roofing systems, with the ability to contribute to façade investigations and repair projects as well. Excellent client relations and communication skills are required. You must be authorized to work in the United States and possess a valid driver’s license. WDP is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Previous related training and certifications are welcome, but not required. WDP will train and certify the right candidate in all required areas. Our preference will be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Performing façade and roofing evaluations and investigations
  • Preparing re-roofing plans and specifications
  • Performing non-destructive and performance testing, including infrared scanning, capacitance testing, diagnostic water testing, and others
  • Participating in or supervising quality control monitoring activities during the execution of repairs in construction
  • Performing construction administration services including making observations, conducting progress meetings, reviewing, and approving submittals, RFIs, and other construction related documents.
  • Registered Roof Consultant (RRC) designation or the ability to earn this designation within the first year of employment

Knowledge in analysis and design of different roofing and waterproofing types and systems is essential for this role. You’ll participate in diverse projects focusing on different systems including:

  • Single ply roof membranes (EPDM /TPO/PVC/KEE)
  • Built-up roofing
  • Modified bitumen systems
  • Asphalt and slate shingles
  • Metal Roofing and flashings
  • Green roofing systems
  • Specialty roofing such as Clay tile
  • Hot / Cold-applied horizontal or below grade waterproofing

The regular duties of the Building Enclosure and Roof Consultant/Designer will include:

  • Conducting on-site evaluations of existing roofs and assisting in the development of design documents for roof replacement projects.
  • Managing or working on the evaluation, investigation, and design of unique repairs for existing buildings that have experienced either architectural failures, water leakage, or other moisture induced damage. Investigations utilize a wide range of methods including water testing, non-destructive and destructive testing, and overall evaluations of existing conditions with the intent of developing repairs that address the Client's needs.
  • Contributing to the development of full contract documents for the renovation, restoration, and preservation of existing buildings, particularly roofing systems.
  • Assisting senior level engineers with third party peer reviews of building enclosures, including roofing and facades for both constructability and performance.
  • Performing site observations during the implementation of WDP created building envelope design documents.
  • Reviewing contractor submittals, RFI’s, pay applications, and other documents generated throughout the construction process.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, construction, or a related field
  • 3+ years’ experience in construction, architecture, or engineering
  • The desire to engage in hands-on field investigations primarily in Virginia, Maryland, and DC, with the ability for out of state travel when required.
  • Valid driver's license, driving history, and background verifications.
  • U.S. Work Authorization
  • Regular day travel and occasional overnight travel
