Job Summary


The position will research, write and produce news stories. This includes information gathering, fact checking and reporting. This position will gather audio in the field, conduct interviews, mix and produce audio elements for broadcast; pursue both long and short form reporting as well as consistently present enterprising story topics.


Essential Functions


40% - Writes news stories or scripts related to events or topics of interest
20% - Interviews sources to gather pertinent information, analysis and facts; Organizes story elements, and journalistic data
15% - Researches potential stories, topics, background information and facts related to newsworthy events or subjects
15% - Conducts fact-checking and verifies sources; Reviews reference materials and supplemental information related to stories
10% - Edits stories and scripts; ensures proper grammar usage and appropriate communication style; performs related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications


Bachelor’s Degree in journalism, radio/television, broadcasting or directly related field and one year of field experience such as news and/or background research, writing news stories and/or conducting interviews.

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.


Desired Qualifications


A. Two (2) or more years of reporting experience
B. Experience as a reporter at a public radio station or newspaper
C. Experience with field audio reporting equipment and digital editing tools
D. Experience producing audio with sound elements as demonstrated by submitted audio example via a portfolio through a link; website; or any media format submitted by close of business of the application deadline ( Please upload with your application.)

Special Working Conditions


Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D driver's license is required; must meet minimum standards regarding driving: http://www.maricopa.edu/legal/rmi/vehicle.htm#requirements . Travel to campus during interview/selection process will be at candidate’s own expense. Will be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD locations. May require numerous evenings or weekends. May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen. May be required to lift or carry up to #25 lbs
