Overview:
The Billing and Collections Specialist is responsible for accurate and timely billing and collection of patient accounts, and for collaborating with other members of the finance team to assure the accuracy and efficiency of the billing system
Responsibilities:
Patient Billing
  • Timely notification to appropriate parties of hospice benefit elections and revocations.
  • Verification of all required documentation and insurance coverage that supports billing is on file.
  • Generate accurate and timely claims to meet filing requirements for all pay sources and secondary payors.
  • Investigate denied or short-paid claims and take necessary action to ensure claims are paid in accordance with regulations and contracts. Obtain required approvals for necessary adjustments and update accounting system with appropriate adjustment codes.
  • Create and process invoices as appropriate.

Accounts Receivable and Collections

  • Review, analyze, monitor, and collect accounts receivable balances to ensure it is accurate and timely.
  • Follow up on aging claims to resolve issues in order to collect outstanding balances, and file appeals as needed.
  • Document all collection efforts and recommend write-offs when accounts become uncollectable.
  • Initiate credit card, ACH, and Care for All payments
  • Process Care for All Applications
Other Duties
  • Perform month end closing support for nursing home payments, reconciliation of accounts, and GL system entries.
  • Participate in internal work groups, meetings and committees relative to position responsibilities.
  • Stay current with billing regulatory changes and contribute to system and process improvement.
Qualifications:
  • Associate’s Degree in Finance or Accounting; or equivalent work experience required
