Hopewell Health Centers is a nationally accredited federally qualified health and community mental health center with 23 sites across TEN counties throughout Southeastern Ohio (Athens, Franklin, Gallia, Hocking, Jackson, Meigs, Perry, Ross, Vinton, and Washington). We are currently seeking TWO (2) FULL TIME AND TWO (2) PART TIME Behavior Aides to join our Gallipolis, OH Youth Crisis Stabilization team. The hours for these positions are 7am-3pm and 3pm-11pm.

As a Behavior Aide, you will be responsible for providing quality, trauma-informed therapeutic interventions for youth in crisis who present to the YCSU. The Behavior Aide staff will provide billable services during youth’s residency. The Behavior Aide staff assist youth in crisis with their day-to-day functioning, are the initial interventionists when a youth is having loss of emotional regulation or behavioral issues, provide supportive counseling that parrots and extends from the youth’s treatment goals, and facilitates/co-facilitates group counseling/activities.

Duties of the Behavior Aide include but are not limited to:

  • Facilitate life skills through individual and groups on topics such as interpersonal skills, communication skills, anger and stress management, self-esteem, social skills, daily living skills, problem solving skills, and positive coping skills.
  • Provides assistance during crisis situations.
  • Immediately report to Director/Site Manager/RN/Therapist respectively available and assigned to youth’s case with concern as to any dangerous behaviors that could include, but are not limited to: suicidal actions or threats; damage to property; threats of actual or perceived violence; or any other behavior of potential imminent danger to one’s self or others
  • Participates in conjunction with other treatment team members in recognition, development, and monitoring of goals outlined in youth resident’s individualized service plan (ISP).
  • Plans and develops therapeutic group activities and programming in cooperation with additional treatment team members.
  • Completes relevant documentation and provides statistical reporting as required by agency policy. Completes progress notes and daily logs within one working day of the delivery of service.
  • Monitor youth’s behaviors, providing youth with positive feedback or addressing inappropriate behaviors when necessary. Additionally, documents behavior and progress toward goals daily.
  • Ability to remain calm in times of crisis and respond accordingly, as trained, in de-escalation techniques and interventions.
  • Maintaining respectful mannerisms when interacting with client/client’s family.
  • Understands the importance of the needs of agency sites’ 24/7 functioning, and as such can be depended on to report to work on time and fully prepared to give full attention to their job responsibilities.
  • Encourages, educates, and assists (when needed) youth residents to complete their own daily living activities of chores to keep common living areas and bedrooms clean and orderly, as well as completing their personal laundry.
  • Assists in daily living activities of the residential site of cleaning and sanitization of the entirety of the building’s common living areas, dining areas, sleeping quarters, and bathrooms, as well as laundry. At times the following responsibilities may need assistance in the event of any unexpected situations: food prep, cooking, and kitchen clean-up, and minor gardening responsibilities of weeding/watering the small garden areas next to the building.
  • Receives supervision from Director or designee.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

What do we look for in our Behavior Aides??

  • HS Diploma or Equivalent
  • Experience and/or training working with youth in a residential setting preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mental health or closely related field preferred.
  • Must possess the ability to work closely with clients and team members in problem solving;
  • Ability to work responsibly, ability to communicate effectively verbally and in written form.
  • Ability to work with emotionally distressed youth and their families who present in a crisis state, ability to understand and relate to the family’s values and culture and the child’s interest.

Preferred Qualifications: Education in the areas of mental health treatment, behavior management, social services or similarly related field, one or more years’ experience in crisis management, mental health or substance abuse interventions with youth and their families, CPR/First Aid Certification
