The Role: The Developer Experience & Platform organization is a diverse team of technologists, all working towards the common goal of ensuring the customer is at the center of everything we do. In this case, the customers are our fellow developers.


This role, AVP - Developer Experience & Platforms is responsible for developing technology frameworks, tooling and practices that support the global developer community in delivering digital experiences across Web, API, Mobile and Emerging Channels, and leveraging Platform and Cloud Automation, along with DevOps tooling to ensure a cohesive and seamless Developer Experience. This includes developing frameworks and global assets that standardize and enforce MetLife enterprise standards around security, stability, and scalability.


This leader will be responsible for enabling the developer community through DevSecOps practices, productivity tooling and establishing community of practices around software engineering areas. This role will also be responsible for monitoring and reporting framework adoption and adherence.


Key Relationships:

  • Reports to: VP of Platforms & Engineering in Global Enterprise Platforms organization


Key Responsibilities
:

  • Develops roadmap and technical architecture for Microservices (Nano) and configuration-driven, composable UI (Remix) frameworks.
  • Defines architectural patterns and reference implementations for Mobile and Emerging channels.
  • Maintains and enables mobile platforms for application distribution (App Center, MFP).
  • Develops implementation standards and playbooks for developing Web, Mobile and API applications.
  • Responsible for developing Platform & Cloud Automation (using tools like Terraform) for ensuring a repeatable and automated way for platform consumption.
  • Ensures that application blueprints and patterns are created for standardized and easy consumption by development teams.
  • Build and maintain Global UI component library for enterprise design system.
  • Develops training and certification programs for internal and external development resources, ensuring the development workforce is skilled and accredited on the frameworks.
  • Defines quality metrics and governance processes in alignment with Platform strategy.
  • Collaborates closely with developer community to understand upcoming needs and incorporates them into backlog and release schedules.
  • Manages application development resources skilled in software engineering.
  • Oversees development partner relationships, defining risk profiles for roadmap execution.
  • Partners with multiple senior technology leaders to manage a holistic approach to strategy, planning, delivery, and communications.
  • Builds productive relationships and personal credibility with key technology stakeholders to ensure successful delivery and maintain alignment, in a highly matrixed global environment.
  • Provides platform representation at program governance meetings with executive and senior management.
  • Supports framework currency, patching and production issues.
  • Anticipated travel up to 10%-25%.


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • BS/MS in Computer/Social Science, Technology or Engineering.
  • 10+ years of experience in SDLC methodologies and lead delivery of enterprise scale technology projects.
  • 5+ years of experience in Platform and Product development with a dedicated focus on software engineering practices, patterns, frameworks and cloud platforms & automation.
  • Experience in digital technologies and strategies including web, mobile, and APIs.
  • Outstanding executive communication skills, written and oral with focused attention to details.
  • Strong strategic thinking and tactical execution capabilities; brings critical thinking and intellectual rigor.
  • Able to work in and bring clarity to ambiguous, evolving environments.
  • Maintains a high performance / high accountability mentality, demonstrated in large, matrixed initiatives.
  • Strong interpersonal, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with demonstrated ability to apply analysis to actionable insights.
  • Proven cross-functional leadership skills to motivate and inspire the team.


Preferred:

  • Background working in Financial Services, Insurance and/or Banking experience.
  • Hands-on technology driver who is motivated to create innovative solutions to unique problems.
  • Willingness to adopt and evangelize modern technology and key process improvements within the technology department.

The wage range for applicants for this position is $190K to $235K. The role is eligible for incentive compensation under the sales incentive plan for your position.
