As an AV Event Tech / Crew Chief at The Werd Company, you’ll be at the center of the action with The Werd Company’s dynamic and growing Audiovisual team in Austin, TX. You will help pre-designed AV event systems become reality, operate AV equipment, manage crew, and have input in these processes. The AV Event Tech / Crew Chief thrives in a rapidly evolving environment and is exceptionally flexible, able to carry out a broad scope of responsibilities.

What You’ll Do:
  • Skillful operation of small to large-scale audiovisual systems
  • Work in different environments such as event spaces, existing venues, pop-up venues, convention centers, etc
  • Knowledge of how audiovisual elements and systems interact with each other
  • Direct crew members to setup and teardown gear in a timely, efficient, accurate, and clean manner
  • Troubleshoot problems that may occur on-site, escalating issues immediately when solutions are not found
  • Interact with clients onsite and deliver on their requests
  • Coordinate with the venue, vendors, and 3rd party technical staff to ensure a successful event
  • Lead crews onsite, delegating tasks based on crew member’s skill sets
  • Ability to handle last-minute changes from, both, a scheduling and equipment standpoint while maintaining a cool, collected mindset
  • Proactively anticipate problems and actively prevent them
  • Translate technical drawings and notes into functioning AV systems
  • Work non-traditional hours and holidays
  • Assist warehouse staff in preparing gear for events including pre-programming equipment, relevant QC
  • Occasional participation in walkthroughs, gathering information integral to planning the event’s logistics
  • Attend regular meetings with Technical Designers, Project Managers, and other relevant personnel - providing input on how to make the event a success
  • Maintain office hours in addition to onsite hours - this schedule will depend on the project cycle and will vary from week to week
  • Mentor less skilled technicians and personnel
  • Prepare post-event reports describing the event’s setup, show, teardown, and crew members' arrival and departure times
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Personality and Skill Requirements:
  • At least 4 years experience as an A1, L1, V1, Stage Manager and/or Crew Chief
  • Dependable and respectful
  • Ability to lead and maintain positive morale with associates
  • Comfortable working independently and in a team environment while upholding the company's core values
  • Basic knowledge of networking and inter/intranet protocols as it pertains to the AV industry
  • Has an “above and beyond” mindset
  • Always use safety and caution when working
  • Detail-oriented personality - pays attention to the small things
  • Quick thinker, fast learner, and a problem solver
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong decision-making ability
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs repeatedly through the course of the day without assistance; and maneuver and lift up to 225 lbs. with assistance
  • Effectively delegates tasks to associates

Job Type and Compensation:
  • Full-time: Days will vary from week to week depending on project schedules
  • Exempt, $38K - $55K per year (rate based on experience and skill level)
