Location: Collingswood, NJ

Shift: Full-Time, M-F

Salary: $20-$40/ hour depending on experience

Position Objective Overview:
As a technician you are responsible for performing thorough digital inspections on all vehicles that come through the shop and making quality recommendations based on those findings. You will be performing diagnostics based on customer concerns, documenting findings, communicating recommended repairs with the service writer(s), performing repairs within allotted time frames/deadlines, and confirming these repairs through thorough road testing and documentation of after repair findings. Additionally, the automotive technician is responsible for the cleanliness of their work area and the shop as a whole.

Requirements:

  • HS Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Driver License
  • Minimum age of 21 (due to automotive insurance requirements)
  • Prior experience in a similar role (min 3 years)
  • Heavy duty truck experience preferred
  • Ability to remain organized during high volume and stress periods
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Strong TEAM player. Willing to help others and accept help
  • Internal drive for personal growth and continual education opportunities
  • Ability to work with hands overhead, stand, kneel for long periods and lift 50 lbs.

Primary Duties

Arriving to work with enough time to be dressed in proper attire and ready to begin the day at 8:00 for the morning huddle

Being on time and present at the 12:30 mid-day huddle and the 4:30 daily wrap up huddle.

Communicating any expected absence or lateness to management as soon as is possible. A lateness or absence can greatly affect our ability to meet our commitments to customers, ample notice allows us to come up with a plan to prevent or minimize this.

Performing thorough and accurate digital inspections with clear photos of all aspects of the vehicle, not just recommended items.

Making repair recommendations based on inspection findings, factory scheduled maintenance, and/or results of diagnostics performed for specific customer concerns/complaints.

Documenting all diagnostic findings and steps taken to diagnose a problem, follow industry standard complaint, cause, correction, confirm and utilize the digital inspection process to record codes before and after repairs.

Communicate parts and labor time needed for repairs with service writer(s) and review digital inspection at the vehicle.

Reviewing the estimate for recommended repairs with the service writer(s) to ensure that the labor is estimated accurately, all (known) required parts are on the estimate, and that there is ample time to complete repairs within customers deadline and the current shop workload.

Completing any sold repairs within the deadline agreed upon by service writer(s). in the event of the repair running behind a plan must be put in place to uphold our commitment to the customer, this could include but is not limited to a technician staying late or coming in early to get the job back on track

Minimizing comebacks by performing thorough diagnostics using all available resources and performing thorough post repair inspection to ensure customer concerns are addressed and corrected.

Thoroughly verifying repairs through road testing and when required retracing diagnostic steps to ensure that the customers concern has been addressed and the vehicle is repaired.

Taking ownership of production. As a technician is required to meet a specific productivity target, this target is the minimum performance expectation for that technician and will be the key metric used to measure performance. It is the responsibility of the technician to understand this target and work with the writer(s) and service manager to meet it, and if falling short to come up with a plan with the service manager to close the gap.

Check in with service writer or service manager before leaving for the day.

Working with Service Manager to meet individual and company targeted goals on an ongoing basis. Be receptive to constructive criticism, changes in processes/habits and overall approach in order to meet these goals.

Secondary Duties

Upholding company core values.

Maintaining company image by dressing appropriately in company provided uniforms and/or accompany approved attire

Maintaining condition and cleanliness of work area, shop equipment and tools, and the shop as a whole.

Securing all location assets including equipment, inventory, and customer vehicles (vehicles locked and keys secured).

Working towards acquiring and/or maintaining all ASE and other industry certifications.

Working towards acquiring and/or maintaining a certification as a New Jersey State Inspector.

Independently, Purchase, Maintain and update all personal tools necessary to perform and complete all repairs.

Assist the Service Manager/ Service Advisors when necessary in handling the service desk, answering phones, repair order input, and ordering/receiving parts.

Maintain a supportive/cooperative line of communication with all members of the company and location staff.

Actively contribute towards a positive team environment, participate in group meetings and offer constructive feedback and suggestions.

All other duties and assignments as delegated by the management team.
