JOB TITLE: Automation Design Engineer
JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective
The Automation Design Engineer will be a contributing engineer who is primarily a CAD/design resource to support the sales and engineering teams. In addition to design work, this engineer will help salespeople and customers select the best products and solutions within the Rankin Automation Product Lines.
Essential Functions
  • Utilize AutoCAD to design 80/20 aluminum structures such as machine frames, safety guarding, work stations, and other structures
  • Design engineered solutions such as multi-axis gantry systems, fixturing, tooling, and adapter plates
  • Utilize Fusion360 CAM software to develop CNC machine code, and ideally operate CNC equipment to manufacture the designs created
  • Build/assemble your designs in the shop
  • Possess technical knowledge on suppliers products – Key Suppliers are
    • 80/20, Festo, Balluff, Mitsubishi, ABB, Schmalz
  • Assist customers in choosing the right solution for each application
  • Provide presentations to customers and internal staff on engineered solutions
  • Provide product demonstrations for key suppliers products
Competencies
  • Proficient with AutoCad (ideally 80/20 AutoQuoter as well)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Experience designing Pneumatic and Electrical Automation Solutions
  • Experience with Industrial Automation Hardware and Pneumatics
  • Self-starter that will take direction and execute a plan with little supervision
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and TEAMS
    • Proficient with AutoCad and Fusion360, or equivalent design tools
    • Ideally comfortable designing electrical and pneumatic circuits
Work Environment
This job operates in an office located in Conshohocken PA. This role may travel throughout the region to visit clients and prospective clients. The role requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers and smartphones.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This would require the ability to lift up to 40 lbs. The job requires the ability to travel throughout the mid-Atlantic region as well as attend sales meetings and supplier training.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or Technical Degree
  • Two or more years of Industrial Automation Application or Design Engineering experience
  • Prior work related use of Microsoft Office tools and AutoCad
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Over five years of Industrial Automation Engineering experience
  • CNC milling programming and operation
  • BS in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering
