Job Title: Athletic Complex Groundskeeper

Reports to: Director of Operations and Facilities/Maintenance and Activities Director

Status: Full Time (seasonal optional), Hourly, Non-Exempt

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

Responsible for the routine and non-routine work associated with the upkeep of the district’s athletic complexes and related equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Use various grounds maintenance tools and supplies;
  • Adjust word schedules to meet varying conditions;
  • Perform heavy manual labor;
  • Maintain cooperative working relationships;
  • Comply with the physical demands of this position;
  • Maintain safe work environment;
  • Performs routine preventive maintenance activities (i.e. - lubricates moving parts, changes oil, replaces filters, cleans equipment, adjusts/replaces belts, changes blades, prepares items for storage, winterizing, etc.);
  • Monitors the conditions of athletic complex buildings and grounds. Reports suspected problems and/or unsafe conditions to supervisor;
  • Troubleshoot and complete repairs to equipment used in the services of the district;
  • Perform emergency work when required after hours;
  • Perform duties assigned as a member of the snow removal team before and after hours;
  • Assist in providing the necessary safeguards to prevent loss of school property through theft, pilferage, or vandalism;
  • Provides for the regular and orderly removal of trash and cleaning of restrooms and other associated facilities;
  • Maintains recreation areas, practice fields, and competition fields as directed;
  • Prepares athletic fields according to the conference/league and state athletic association rules and regulations, including layout, painting, and pre-game setup;
  • Maintain maintenance records;
  • Seeding, spraying, fertilizing, topdressing, and aerating;
  • Perform general landscaping duties as assigned;
  • Operate equipment including but not limited to: vehicles and trailers, skid loader, mowers (riders and push), weed trimmers, edgers, leaf blowers, sweeps, lawn vacs, and related equipment, hand and power tools, snow removal trucks, tractors, snow blowers, and related equipment, welders, torches, and other metalworking equipment, painting equipment, herbicide/pesticide spraying equipment, line painters, field drags, chain saws, aerators, and irrigation equipment.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Education and Licensure:

  • Must possess a valid Iowa driver’s license and good driving record;
  • High School Diploma or equivalent;
  • Holds or is qualified to obtain a pesticide application license.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience in grounds care and maintenance;
  • Experience managing clay/lime surfaces for baseball and/or softball fields;
  • Experience managing natural turf athletic field surfaces;
  • Knowledge of minor equipment repair and maintenance;
  • Motivated self-starter with ability to work alone, unsupervised, or as part of a team;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and written;
  • Willingness and ability to learn new skills;
  • General computer skills;
  • Good attendance record, dependable, and punctual.
