Compensation range: $77,740 to $154,560. Based on Lake Forest, CA. (West Yost uses geographic salary differentials that would apply for candidates in other regions).

LOCATION: Open to all of our California based office locations (Orange County / San Diego preference).

Associate – Senior Geologist
Job Description
West Yost is seeking an engineer, scientist or geologist with water resources planning experience interested in developing innovative solutions to challenging groundwater-related projects and managing successful project teams. As a key member of our team, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide array of water resources projects and provide services to local, state, and federal clients throughout California and beyond.
We are seeking a motivated individual with an entrepreneurial spirit who is interested in being part of a diverse, tremendously talented, well-respected team of geologists, engineers, and scientists. To be successful in this role, you will need to have experience in integrated water resources planning, exceptional communication skills, the ability to interact with clients and stakeholder groups, and experience managing and leading projects and project teams.

Essential Duties
Organize and execute technical work on a broad range of project assignments that require knowledge of geology and hydrogeology, including:

  • Ensure the technical quality and coordination of a project is consistent with established West Yost standards and as specified by the Project Manager and/or Principal-in-Charge.
  • Serve as a project manager who will execute projects on scope, schedule, and budget. May be assigned two to three projects to manage simultaneously.
  • As a project manager, communicate with clients to ensure expectations are met and perform work that meets the technical quality requirements of West Yost.
  • Work with regulatory agencies on behalf of our clients to develop innovative solutions to regulatory challenges.
  • Lead and/or support client meetings and presentation.
  • Assist in mentoring and training emerging professionals, particularly geologists in training.
  • Assist in developing and implementing training programs.
  • Analyze, QAQC, and interpret groundwater level data and water quality data.

Qualifications
Required Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Geology, Hydrogeology, Civil Engineering or Environmental Science.
  • 8+ years of professional experience with an engineering consulting firm, public agency, or other water resources field
  • State registration as a geologist, hydrogeologist, or professional engineer / Professional licensing in the State of California
  • High quality, effective technical writing and communication skills
  • Experience managing and leading projects and project teams
  • Knowledge and practical experience related to the preparation and implementation of groundwater management plans or groundwater sustainability plans
  • Knowledge and practical experience evaluating water supplies and demands, as well as conducting other complex water resource assessments
