POSITION SUMMARY

The Associate Director - Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and Communications reports to the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO). The role will partner closely with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), CHRO, Human Resources Team, and Strategic Communications to serve as a subject matter expert on DEI and employee communications for the organization. The role will drive diversity and equity efforts for the organization through focused actions that contribute to a highly inclusive organization. The role will also develop internally facing integrated communication plan, and related content, for the organization with a focus on DEI.

Essential Functions Statement(s):

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI)

  • In partnership with the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) and Senior Leadership Team (SLT), create and execute a comprehensive diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) strategy with supporting goals, tactics, and metrics in support of a highly inclusive environment aligned to the organizations strategic plan
  • Partner with CHRO and human resources (HR) team to identify DEI metrics that effectively measure the degree of employee engagement and feeling of inclusiveness as a result of executing upon strategy goals and tactics
  • Partner with the CHRO to identify and incorporate appropriate DEI focused questions into the engagement survey to measure inclusiveness of environment
  • Track DEI metrics and DEI focused engagement questions; analyze results, generate insights, and appropriately refine strategy and tactics to support a highly inclusive environment; share insights garnered on regular basis with Human Resources (HR) team and senior leadership
  • In partnership with HR Team, engage key stakeholders across the organization to proactively participate in supporting and executing goals and tactics that drive a highly inclusive environment; including development and implementation of programs that advance our inclusive culture
  • In partnership with CHRO and HR Team, develop and guide network of internal colleagues to further ECRIs goal of a highly inclusive and engaged organization; identify and engage appropriate external community members as appropriate to support inclusive environment
  • Proactively review communications, policies and procedures to ensure inclusiveness as well as work with the HR Team and appropriate stakeholders to action as appropriate
  • Stay well-informed of ways to drive DEI by building external relationships, training, and self-driven research
  • Serve as DEI subject matter expert (SME) in partnership with the CHRO by representing ECRI in external forums to enhance external awareness of ECRI and the organizations role in driving health equity
  • Lead, engage and collaborate with Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) and Affinity Groups to inform annual goals for each in line with the DEI and organizational strategy
  • Create appropriate DEI materials, including written content, for senior leadership for internal and external use
  • Partner with other SMEs, lending support and expertise to further health equity
  • Partner with Director, Strategic Communications to align and execute coordinated DEI communications for internal and external stakeholders
  • Partner with HR/Recruitment to enhance and support diverse talent attraction strategy and related actions
  • Partner with ERGs to support execution of key events, including marketing and communication of events to ensure awareness and maximize participation
  • Other duties as assigned

Internal Communications

  • Develop and execute integrated employee communication plan aligned to our mission, vision and strategic objectives in partnership with Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) and Director, Strategic Communications with key input from the Senior Leadership Team (SLT); engage broad set of key internal stakeholders to inform plan
  • Develop written and presented communications with an eye to inclusivity
  • Track effectiveness of employee communications on a regular basis, and refine integrated communication plan using those insights to maximize effectiveness
  • Review and provide feedback on written communications, as requested, with a diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) lens
  • Collaborate with Director, Strategic Communications to ensure alignment between appropriate internal and external communications; coordinate appropriate timing of communications and content release
  • Partner with Director, Strategic Communications to offer insight on external communications with a DEI lens
  • Establish guidelines for internal communications to maximize effective cascading and understanding of key information
  • Partner with key stakeholders to guide development and execution of internal communication plans for key projects
  • Develop content for intranet site, newsletter, townhall and other internal mediums in line with the communication plan or as requested
  • Lead, guide and actively participate in Governance Committee for ECRIs intranet site
  • Other duties as assigned

Accountability Metrics:

  • Deployment, and ongoing refinement, of effective diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) strategy with support tactics tied to organizational goals and mission
  • Align key stakeholders in Human Resources (HR), employee resource groups (ERGs), affinity groups, and leadership around DEI strategy and specific tactics where their support or action is required for success
  • Engage key stakeholders in a way that makes them active participants in evolving the culture to drive inclusiveness and belonging
  • Deliver resources, training programs and other resources to enable all employees to take active part in a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment
  • Key resource to employees, Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), Affinity Groups, and all levels of leadership in DEI space
  • External partnerships that further our inclusive culture and mission
  • Communication strategy that supports strong employee engagement, understanding of key information, and clarity on how daily work connects with strategic plan in service of our mission
  • Communication materials that effectively resonate with a diverse audience and stakeholder needs to ensure inclusiveness and relevance
  • Strong governance model for dissemination of internal communication materials through formal (e.g. intranet site, organization wide emails) mediums

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:

  • 6+ years progressive proven experience designing and implementing actions that drive an inclusion organization, including communications
  • Prior experience working in a non-profit healthcare setting is preferred
  • Proven experience writing, editing and executing internal communications that support organizational goals inclusive of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) focus
  • Proven experience developing and executing actions, trainings, and other actions that progress creation of a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment
  • Proven ability to collaborate across different areas of an organization through effective communications and interactions
  • Strong attention to detail in work
  • Ability to synthesize data, generate insights, and provide recommendations using insights
  • Proven agility with a strong desire to learn
  • Prior experience creating and tracking key metrics that effectively measure impact of work specific to employee engagement
  • Prior experience collaborating with Employee Resource Groups and Affinity Groups to further employee inclusion and engagement while supporting the organizations mission
  • Experience conversing with colleagues in an effective manner to generate deeper understanding and appreciation of DEI

Education:

  • Bachelors degree is required; human resources, health care, communications or organizational dynamics focus is ideal

Computer Skills:

  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office products

Certifications & Licenses:

  • PHR/SPHR, SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP preferred
