Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The UNC Adams School of Dentistry Dean’s Office provides oversight for the Adams School of Dentistry and serves as the liaison to the University, citizens, alumni and friends.
Position Summary
The Associate Dean for Finance and Administration plays a key role at the Adams School of Dentistry (ASOD) and is a member of the senior leadership team. The incumbent reports to the Dean and works closely with the Division Chairs, Vice, Associate and Assistant Deans, staff, students, and University Administration. The Associate Dean has comprehensive responsibility for administration, fiscal management, budgeting, and financial strategic planning to ensure the ongoing efficient and effective administration and sustainability of the ASOD in fulfillment of the missions of the ASOD and UNC-CH. The Associate Dean for Finance and Administration provides the administrative oversight of Financial Affairs, Human Resources, Office of Computing and Information Systems, Facilities, and the operational functions of the Patient and Residency Clinics, advice and counsel to the Dean and others on the administrative, financial, and business activities of the ASOD, and performs other functions and duties as assigned by the Dean.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with three years or greater of related professional experience; for candidates demonstrating comparable professional backgrounds, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and five years or greater of relevant experience in substitution.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Master’s degree in finance, public administration, business administration, or a related field. Exceptional budgetary, financial management, planning, and analytical knowledge, skills, and abilities. Excellent oral and written skills, as well as advocacy skills and the ability to listen and understand the concerns of various groups while balancing the interests of the school community, as well as excellent strategic and presentation skills.
Demonstrated success in shaping and developing administration and creating collaborative relationships across all facets of the university. Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact and work effectively with leadership, faculty, staff, and students. Ability to identify and understand issues, problems, and opportunities; determines course of action; develops appropriate solutions. A leadership role in partnering with colleagues to advance a shared mission.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in financial and budgetary management and accounts receivable management. Previous experience in an academic health center.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
