Additionally, the Development Engineering Division offers the flexibility of a 9/80 work schedule (every other Friday off) and a hybrid work environment that allows employees to work in-person and remotely throughout different days of the week. Employees have the opportunity to work remotely by using state of the art equipment provided by the City's I.T. Department.

The City of Napa is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill an Associate Civil Engineer (Development Engineering) vacancy in the Development Engineering Division of Public Works. The Development Engineering Division is responsible for the engineering review and processing of private development applications as well as plan check and coordination of infrastructure construction activities resulting from the development process. The Division also provides administration of the Stormwater Program, Flood Plain Management, Traffic Engineering, GIS, and Real Property Management and assistance to the public for a broad range of general inquiries.

Successful candidates will possess the following demonstrated knowledge and abilities:
  • Ability to evaluate submitted development applications for completeness.
  • Ability to determine the impact of proposed developments on City infrastructure when reviewing development applications.
  • Ability to prepare conditions of approval to mitigate impacts from development projects.
  • Knowledge of plan check maps and improvement plans to assure compliance with applicable state law and City Code requirements.
  • Ability to review improvement agreements, offers of dedication, bonds and deeds associated with Development Projects.
  • Ability to coordinate with developers, other city departments, agencies, utility companies and the general public throughout the development process.
  • Ability to represent the Public Works department at the Planning Commission, City Council, and public meetings.
Ideal candidates for the Associate Civil Engineer (Development Engineering) role will have shown success in demonstrating the following competencies:

Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California with good standing is required .

The eligibility list established from this recruitment is intended to fill one (1) vacancy and may be used to fill future similar full-time regular and/or limited-term vacancies as they occur during the active status of the employment list. SELECTION PROCESS

The City of Napa utilizes a Civil Service Selection System founded on merit. What happens next?
