Associate Business Development Manager

The Business Development Manager is responsible for implementing & evaluating the 6P strategies developed by Retail Marketing for the Neighborhood Pet Channel customers. The primary objective of this role is to coordinate and translate brand strategies into maximized sales results, market share, and financial return. This resource understands both Brand and CDO aspects of the Retail Environment to create effective field strategies and eCommerce expansion. The BDM supports activities in commercial planning and assists leading the Monthly Discipline process for the Neighborhood Pet Team.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities:


Customer Engagement and Leadership

  • Leadership Role within the NHP team, working closely with the Team Leader and NHP/Farm Finance manager.
  • Strong customer engagement across each BAMs key customer, focusing on adding value to our partnerships and continuing to build stronger relationships with these key customers.
  • Develops, executes and monitors 6P plans versus goal for the Neighborhood Pet Team.
  • Supports monthly district calls; collaborates with Field Regional Sales Managers to incorporate key learnings into strategic planning with the Neighborhood Pet Team.
  • Supports and executes annual strategic plans and initiatives to achieve the commercial goals. Engages customers on insights and strategic growth opportunities.
  • Ensures systematic post evaluation of 6P activities and develops detailed understanding of the effectiveness of different investment levers.
  • Manages process and approvals for field promotional activities (ie. coupons)


Commercial Planning

  • Supports and provides guidance on volume estimates for Neighborhood Pet Team P&L (by customer and for total Neighborhood Pet).
  • Identifies exceptions, gaps, and opportunities to be presented in the commercial planning and monthly discipline processes.
  • Drives forward actions in monthly customer planning meetings to review YTD plus plan-to-go with BAMs and Finance.
  • Collaborates with Retail Marketing and Finance in executing the Hill’s retail environment and brand strategy within investment guidelines.
  • Tailors internal presentations to the strategies and performance of each customer.


Reporting & Analysis

  • Summarizes trends and interprets data collected from customer, CMI, and Marketing analytics.
  • Populates monthly scorecard with relevant information and commentary; identifying critical forward actions to support needs of current business trends.
  • Analyzes / reviews relevant reports related to key priorities around distribution, consumption, volume/sales/margin, etc.to provide forward looking actions to support volume and share growth.
  • Establishes internal customer profitability goals and ensures funds are deployed to drive consumption and profitable outcomes for Hill’s and Neighborhood Pet Team.


Go-to-Market & eCommerce

  • Manages execution of sales plans and resolves issues through both the customer and internal commercial teams, including Retail Marketing, Marketing, Supply Chain, and Sales Operations.
  • Supports strategic eCommerce growth opportunities; sales plans and analytics.
  • Supports eCommerce data, graphics, and image updates as needed.


Basic requirements:


Expected Areas of Skills

  • Strong analytical skills to identify trends and continuous improvement plans
  • Proficiencies in computer systems, such as Microsoft, Google, BE, CRM, CBP, Expandshare and databases
  • Manage competing priorities and customer service needs
  • Able to lead change efforts including GTM plans and improvement for field communications and effectiveness
  • Effective project management skills
  • Foundational knowledge in CDO field activities and marketing basics


Preferred requirements:

  • MBA
  • 3+ years field sales experience
  • 3 years field management and /or Business Account Management

Salary Range $96,640 - $141,435 USD

Pay is based on several non discriminatory factors including but not limited to experience, education, skills and office location. In addition to your salary, Colgate-Palmolive offers a performance based bonus and competitive benefits package.
