Job description
This position promotes and assists in managing all aspects of the Parks Department’s Community Tennis programs including programs associated with the Community Sports Development Program (CSDP).
Day-to-day:
- Assists in overseeing and developing the curriculum for Cooper Tennis Academy and Community Tennis Programs
- Collaborates with colleagues to develop programs and community outreach
- Assists Head Pro with Recruiting, hiring and training teaching staff.
- Assists in performing assessments on classes and evaluates and trains teaching staff
- Runs leagues and tournaments within Community Tennis and outside organizations such as USTA, UTR, and WTT
- 2+ years of high level playing and/or coaching experience with strong teaching skills and experience developing and running successful tennis programs
- USTA Player Development High Performance Coach, PTR, or USPTA Certification preferred or ability to complete certifications within 6 months of hiring.
- High-level communication skills with players, parents, coaches, and colleagues
- Great organization skills; thrives in a fast-paced environment.

About the Community Tennis Section
Named the 2000, 2016, and 2022 USTA Outstanding Tennis Facility, Cooper Tennis Complex offers tennis lessons and leagues for all ages. The Complex includes 12 indoor courts, 17 outdoor lighted courts including a 2,500-seat Mediacom Stadium Court and is the home of the Springfield Lasers Pro Tennis Team. Cooper Tennis Complex is home to high school tennis, collegiate teams, and the Greater Springfield Community Sports Development Tennis Program. The Complex hosts a wide range of annual USTA events, including 10 and under events and USTA sanctioned tournaments, as well as numerous other state and regional tournaments. There are 16 other local parks hosting over 45 public courts across the Springfield community.
Experience, Education, and Training
- Two years of experience coaching or teaching tennis programs.
PREFERRED
- Experience developing and leading related programs.
- If operating a motor vehicle for the purpose of completing job duties, must possess a valid driver’s license.
AND
- Must be SafeSport certified within the probationary period.
PREFERRED
- United States Professional Tennis Registry (USPTR) and/or United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA).
