MISSION / SUMMARY:
The Assistant Superintendent II – Pulp/Fiber is a position within the Pulp Mill/Fiber department, reporting directly to the Manufacturing Manager – Fiber. This position manages and coordinates the activities of employees engaged in process for Digester / Bleach Plant areas or the Caustic / Kiln / R8 areas based on the experience of the individual. This individual will be responsible for employee safety, regulatory compliance, product quality and overall process management and reliability of the assigned area.

JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.
  • Exhibiting safety leadership, modeling safe behaviors, and encouraging safety engagement
  • Ensuring 100% environmental compliance with all systems, including PSM and NCG systems
  • Ensuring 100% compliance to State, insurance, and company operating regulations
  • Working with Fibers Supervisors to engage crews in continuous improvements and safety improvements
  • Supporting crew training, blended learning, and certification activities
  • Setting daily, weekly, and monthly operating priorities.
  • Monitoring process health while meeting daily, weekly and monthly operational and cost targets
  • Working with the process engineers to implement sustainable cost reduction projects
  • Working with Reliability organization and process control group to implement sustainable reliability improvement projects
  • Ensure major outage planning and execution activities are completed safety, successfully, and on budget.
  • Work systems implementation for the area
  • Coordinating daily and weekly maintenance and operations activities for the area
  • Pulping area consist of (2) continuous digesters and a 3 and 4 stage bleach plant
  • Recaust area consist of (2) lime kilns, (2) slakers, (2) eco-filters, and a R8 ClO2 generator.
BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:
  • Five plus years’ progressive and practical pulp mill operation experience.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:
  • BS Degree in Engineering or equivalent technical experience
  • Five plus years of relevant pulp mill experience
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership

  • Strong interpersonal skills

SCHEDULE DEMANDS:
  • General schedule is an 8+-hour M-F assignment, however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so. Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail. Must be willing to work weekend duty for the overall Pulp Mill area.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Frequent, bending, stooping, squatting, as well as frequent movement throughout the facility for extended periods of time up to 8+-hour
  • Occasional Lifting up to 20 lbs.
  • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
  • Use of various office, hand tools or electrical equipment
  • Employee is required to wear steel toe shoes, safety glasses and hearing protecting when in the manufacturing area.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to airborne particles and times of increased heat and humidity.
  • The noise level in the immediate work environment is normally quiet, however requires exposure to a noisy manufacturing environment.
