Overview and Responsibilities:
Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota invites applications for Assistant Program Director of Character and Virtue Education, a grant- funded, full-time position in the school of education. The Assistant Program Director is responsible for advancing character initiatives in the school of education and supporting the university-wide character initiative. This position is based upon funding renewal.

Reporting to the Associate Program Director, this position provides administrative support, organizes events, assists with curriculum development, coordinates school partnerships, and prepares communications. This position will be responsible for writing program communications, maintaining website and social media accounts, and may provide research assistance. This position will work collaboratively with faculty and staff in the school of education, school partners, external consultants, marketing and communications, and those responsible for the university-wide character initiative.

In 2019, Saint Mary’s received a $1.7 million grant from the Kern Family Foundation to develop an enhanced curriculum in the Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) in Educational Administration program that emphasizes the moral character of educational leaders. The University of Birmingham's (UK) Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtue framework is a model for this work.
Other components of the grant include hosting educational summits, organizing character-based professional development, and supporting partner schools. Aspiring to become the largest and most respected program in the state, the Saint Mary’s Ed.S. program prepares candidates to become educational leaders as licensed K-12 principals, directors of special education, and superintendents.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provides administrative support that includes calendar scheduling, document management, budgeting, and other administrative duties.
  • Coordinates event planning including, but not limited to, professional development series, conferences, convenings, the summer institute, and retreats; attends and facilitates the organization of these events.
  • Communicates with invitees and presenters prior to, during, and after events to manage attendance, travel, and evaluation.
  • Assists with program level communications, specifically with external partners such as communicating with partner schools and managing timelines with technology and marketing colleagues.
  • Coordinates documentation and communication of program policies, procedures, and outcomes.
  • Participates in meetings and events as required, including graduation ceremonies.
  • Assists with program budget, ensuring payment of all departmental expenses and forecasting future expenditures.
  • Creating databases of all participants and schools that participate in events and programs.
  • Develops and cultivates relationships with university students and faculty, school partners, and external partners regarding character and virtue education.

Qualifications:
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree; master’s degree (preferred).
  • 2 years of experience in higher education (preferred).
