The World Languages Department of Muskingum University invites applications for a limited term (renewable) faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor or Instructor, beginning Fall semester of 2023. We seek an innovative educator with a strong focus on student learning to assist in launching Muskingum’s new Global Studies program. The successful candidate will teach courses at the beginning and intermediate level in French and courses in global cultures that will anchor the Global Studies major. The ability to teach an additional language at the introductory level is highly desirable. Experience in online teaching will support the department’s initiative to build synchronous language courses offered through an online consortium model.

As a member of the World Languages Department, the successful candidate will have an advising role in the Global Studies program and contribute to robust programming that engages students in language learning, cultural exploration, and hands-on, globally themed experiences. International teaching assistants provide language conversation tables and support rich cultural programming and will be supervised by this faculty member.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Master’s degree in French (language, pedagogy, Francophone studies, or a related field) is required; doctoral degree is preferred
  • Native or near-native fluency in French (oral and written)
  • Experience teaching at the university level with teaching excellence as demonstrated through course evaluations, classroom observations, etc.
  • Professional experience supporting international study, international communities, global relations, or similar roles
  • Training and experience in designing online courses

Muskingum is a comprehensive university with a strong liberal arts tradition, located just seventy miles east of Columbus, Ohio, in the village of New Concord. The university’s total undergraduate, graduate, and adult-learner student population is approximately 2,500.
