Summary of Job Duties:
This UAMS Department of Orthopaedic Pediatric Physician position will be located in Northwest Arkansas and specialize in the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions in children. This person will be the best-trained and most experienced doctor to properly evaluate and treat musculoskeletal (bone, joint, or muscle) problems in a child who is still growing. This includes newborn babies through teenagers. Pediatric orthopaedic surgeons diagnose, treat, and manage children's musculoskeletal problems, such as limb and spine deformities noted at birth or later in life (clubfoot, scoliosis, limb length differences); ait abnormalities (limping); broken bones; bone or joint infections and tumors. Pediatric orthopaedists have extensive and comprehensive training, and as well as expertise in dealing with children and treating their musculoskeletal problems. The candidate will need to be committed to being part of an internationally recognized organization that is focused on providing the best care for patients through a strong interdisciplinary approach.

Qualifications:
  • Valid state medical license as MD or DO.
  • Must be board certified or board eligible Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon.
  • Completed a one-year pediatric orthopedic fellowship.

Additional Information:
Responsibilities:
  • Working collaboratively within the interdisciplinary team to provide surgical services that are consistent with patient needs and with current surgical practice.
  • Pre- and post-operative care.
  • Development of clinical criteria to be used in the monitoring and evaluation of the quality and appropriateness of surgical care provided.
  • Consulting with physicians who provide primary care to our patients, to maximize a person’s health care and coordinate that care with care provided at UAMS.
  • Administrative, research and education responsibilities within the orthopedics section, with the opportunity for an academic appointment.
  • Continue education to maintain competency in areas of expertise.
  • Quality improvement and safety initiatives.
  • Education of UAMS COM Department of Orthopaedic residents, medical students, and fellows by providing seminars and teaching.
  • Provides outpatient consultation and hospital consultation services.
  • Maintains CME units based on the requirements of the specifying Board.
  • Maintains historical records by documenting symptoms, medications, and treatment events and writing summaries.
  • Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
