Responsibilities: This individual will act as the principal in their absence.The Assistant Principal for Special Education and Teaching and Learning oversees, understands and implements all federal, state, and local laws, policies, regulations, and procedures, special education processes and protocols including the implications of liability and requirements of due process.Provide guidance and supervision to teachers in providing explicit targeted support to students.Work collaboratively with the building principal, central offices and parents to ensure that provisions for Individual Education Programs, Meetings, Progress Reports, and transition plans are done in a timely and effective manner that enhances student academic, personal, social and emotional success. Enforce the implementation of a full repertoire of teaching strategies in order to meet the needs of diverse learners. Create and oversee systems that ensure academic success for all students including successful life plans in collaboration with the building principal and other administrative personnel.Explicitly provide opportunities that impart skills and knowledge to learners that prepares them for academic, personal, social and emotional success.Work collaboratively with the building principal to ensure that special education services and programs are provided with a high level of academic quality through student centered principles and practices. Professional development and supervision of teachers in expanding their use and knowledge of student centered learning strategies.Intentionally engage families and communities, especially families whose primary language is not English and those who are new in the United States so they take a meaningful and active role in their students education.Work with teachers to create, analyze and monitor data systems and inform and adapt instruction to meet the needs of students.Work collaboratively with the principal to supervise, support, and evaluate teachers in all aspects of job performance.Be responsive to the needs and interests of all students while working in collaboration with the school principal to meet students where they are and to provide explicit support to ensure that students reach their full potential.Work collaboratively with the building principal and central office staff in the hiring process for teaching and learning positions.Performs other related job duties as assigned by the Principal/Superintendent/Director of Special Education and Student Services.Reports to: School Principal with assistance from the Central officesWork Year: School Year plus thirty (30) thirty days beyond = 210 days totalTerms: Individual Contract
