Primary Purpose of Organization Unit
The UNC Pembroke Office for Community and Civic Engagement will provide meaningful co- and extra-curricular developmental and educational opportunities for students to recognize their civic potential and challenge students to enrich and enhance their education experience to become responsible citizens through active, engaged service as outlined by the University’s mission.

Guided by the University’s Core Values, the Office for Community and Civic Engagement is committed to enhancing the overall educational experience of students by:

  • Providing resources and develop opportunities where students experience and gain knowledge of social, political, and economic issues and engage communities, both local and global, through service;
  • Involving students in the planning, resource development and implementation of co- and extra-curricular activities; and,

Primary Purpose of Position
The primary purpose of this position is to support the office in developing new and strengthening existing community based relationships that are necessary in providing students with opportunities to engage in high impact practices in a variety of disciplines.

In addition to working directly with campus partners and community partners to organize and administer innovative and impactful partnerships, this position would be responsible for developing educational opportunities for agency representatives and facilitating training for agencies as it relates to student development, working with faculty, and engaging the UNCP Campus. This position would take the lead on developing new initiatives and programs that connect and educate community partners to intentionally engage students in high-impact practices focused on civic and community engagement. This will be accomplished by, but not limited to:

  • Developing and implementing community partner development training and workshops
  • Conducting needs assessments for community and partnering agencies
  • Serve as the Lead Manager of UNCP Serve and maintenance of partner profiles
  • Assist and train partners in UNCP Serve
  • Conduct and Coordinate Annual Community Partner Symposium

This position will be directly responsible for conducting and coordinating community partner engagement for days of service, managing volunteer fairs and networking events; serving as host site leader for special large-scale volunteer-based events; coordinating a community organization network that provides access to community partners; building relationships with potential donors to provide support for CCE programs and the CARE Resource Center.
This position would supervise and support the development of student leaders in planning community-based service programs, assist with coordinating alternative break programs, and implement campus-wide outreach of civic and community engagement opportunities for students, faculty, staff, and community partners.

Applicants must be innovative and creative in developing partnerships with agencies and organizations that promote academic service-learning, community service, civic engagement opportunities for faculty and students; have the ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously; travel locally and regionally to meet with existing and new community partners, excellent writing and public speaking, marketing skills; must be able to work independently and part of a team.
