Job Summary:


The Assistant Dean of Faculty Affairs is a strategic partner to the Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs and Senior Associate Dean of Faculty/ CWO. Office of Faculty Affairs is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the faculty life cycle. The Assistant Dean of Faculty Affairs closely with the Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs and Senior Associate Dean of Faculty/CWO and school leaders to fulfill the unit’s goals and objectives while ensuring that the unit operates in accordance with university policies and procedures and SOM rules.

The position serves as the Assistant Dean of Faculty Affairs for the Office of the Senior Associate Dean of Faculty and Chief Wellbeing Officer (CWO) which resides in the School of Medicine (SOM) at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. The Senior Associate Dean of Faculty and CWO is a newly established unit within the School of Medicine. This unit oversees faculty affairs, faculty and leadership development programs, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts, and well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and guide various taskforces, under the direction of the Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs and Senior Associate Dean of Faculty/CWO
  • Oversee process improvement of annual review process and platform, to optimize career development conversations and accountability while reducing clerical workload.
  • Develop, deliver, and evaluate offerings to support faculty onboarding, transitioning into retirement, going up for promotion and tenure
  • Work to streamline faculty promotion process
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate mechanisms beyond promotion to recognize faculty for their contributions to the SOM mission
  • Assist the Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs in matters pertaining to policies and procedures
  • Improve Office of Faculty Affairs communication strategies and website navigation
  • Assist Director of Faculty Affairs with innovation in data management to reduce manual entry and streamline reporting

Qualifications:


Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • MD, DO or PhD with experience in health professions education
  • Eligible for rank at the University of Colorado School of Medicine at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher
  • Experience working in an academic medical setting
  • Four (4) years of broad and diversified professional level experience in faculty affairs within a healthcare setting

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Associate Professor or higher
  • Ten (10) or more years of experience teaching medical students or residents/fellows
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in faculty development
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in faculty affairs
  • Five (5) or more years of experience successfully developing infrastructure, policies, procedures, and programming related to health profession education
  • Demonstrated experience leading, coaching and mentoring a diverse cross-section of people and responsibilities
  • Medical education related peer-reviewed publications
  • National reputation in medical education

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Understand institutional policy, departmental and school policies, and state and federal laws applicable to School of Medicine staff and faculty. This may include hiring policies, leave, benefits, required reporting, and promotion and tenure
  • This position requires the ability to work independently and within a team of administrative peers and staff. The Assistant Dean of Faculty Affairs must also demonstrate diplomacy, judgment, initiative, and confidentiality always
  • Lead strategic educational projects
  • Strong project management skills, including ability to plan, execute, monitor, and control projects
  • Able to think strategically and manage financial resources
  • Able to establish work priorities and provide follow through to insure completion of activities, both personally and in subordinates
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement high-quality faculty development
  • Demonstrated commitment to mentoring, coaching, and advising faculty
  • Able to promote teamwork, delegate work appropriately, and ensure accountability
  • Demonstrate professionalism, a strong work ethic, and commitment to high standards, integrity, and stability, and be approachable and accountable
  • Strong project management skills, including ability to plan, execute, monitor, and control projects
  • Strong data management, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Able to effectively evaluate the quality of data, clean data, conduct basic summary statistics, and present aggregated data.
  • Strong communication skills in oral and written format and broad knowledge of a variety of information dissemination methodologies
  • A passion for working in a “start-up” environment.

Anticipated Pay Range:


The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

The FTE is 20% (0.2 FTE). As compensation for serving as Assistant Dean of Faculty Affairs the Office of the Dean will provide 20% salary support (up to the education salary cap of $40,000). Remote work is allowed, but not to exceed more than half the time allocated to the role. Work location is the Fitzsimons Building on the Anschutz Medical Campus.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
