The radiation oncology program at UC Davis has 3 faculty, 2 residents and 4 full time technicians. The service works closely with the medical oncology service and has a strong working relationship with the diagnostic imaging, neurology, dentistry, and surgical services. Modalities include external beam radiotherapy (Varian TrueBeam linear accelerator with stereotactic capability) and Strontium 90 therapy. The School’s oncology group includes basic science researchers and a pharmacologist allowing for collaborative opportunities in these areas. The School of Veterinary Medicine has very strong collaborative research ties to the medical school and is officially part of the NCI designated Comprehensive Cancer Center through the Comparative Oncology Program, the only such program in the nation.
Veterinarian with advanced training in radiation oncology; board certification in the American College of Veterinary Radiology (Radiation Oncology) is required. Documented clinical experience and competence in radiation oncology is required. Demonstrated aptitude and experience in teaching is required. Documented record of creative scholarship or potential to develop a research program in radiation oncology is required.
Preferred qualifications: PhD or advanced training in research is preferred but not required. Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere. A valid license to practice veterinary medicine in California or a University license will be required before employment (California Business and Professions Code Section 4846-4857; California Business and Professions Code Section 4848.1), the acquisition of which will be facilitated by the School of Veterinary Medicine.

Teaching: Responsibilities include: 1) participation in lectures and laboratories in the DVM professional curriculum; 2) clinical teaching in the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH); 3) participation in the graduate clinical (resident) training program of the VMTH; and 4) participation in the graduate academic programs (MS and PhD) of the campus if applicable.

Clinical: The position includes a 50% clinical commitment to the Radiation Oncology service of the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH). Individual will be responsible for directing, instructing and supervising veterinary students and residents; providing health care and service to in house and referral patients; and advising and consulting with referring veterinarians and clients.

Research: The development of a creative, focused and productive basic and/or clinically-oriented research program in radiation oncology is a fundamental and indispensable requirement of the position, including publication of results in professional/scientific journals. Individual will provide leadership in directing research projects of veterinary students, residents and graduate students.

Service: University and public service through committee work, participation in professional organizations, continuing education and other appropriate means is required.
