We currently have an opening in our Missouri facilities for an Area Plant Environmental, Health and Safety Manager.

The Area Plant Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Manager ensures compliance through management of the occupational safety and health regulations, environmental regulations and corporate policies and programs in HarbisonWalker International’s production plants. This role is responsible for developing and implementing training programs for employee safety and EHS regulatory compliance as well as investigating accidents and worker’s compensation claims and implementing strategies for reduction. The Manager will have oversight for multiple HWI plant locations.

Job Duties:

  • Creating and implementing EHS programs on complex capital development programs. Ensuring HarbisonWalker Internationa;'s production plants are in compliance with occupational safety & health regulations, environmental regulations, and corporate safety & health policies and programs.
  • Establishing benchmarks and performance standards to monitor and evaluate EHS activities by conducting facility audits to verify compliance with EHS regulatory and corporate requirements.
  • Reviewing, educating, and advising HarbisonWalker International’s field employees on workers’ compensation and accident investigation related issues. Coordinating industrial hygiene monitoring and medical surveillance programs in HarbisonWalker International’s production plants.
  • Creating, implementing, and updating all field safety plans, procedures and training that directly affect field employees and regularly participate in facility safety activities.
  • Implementing and reviewing client safety plans and procedures as directed by contractual requirements for field employees. Must ensure safety compliance with all local, state and federal requirements.
  • Supporting the HarbisonWalker Business System (HBS) including 5S and participate in plant cost reduction programs
  • Preparing and maintaining safety reporting systems and monthly safety status reports ensuring compliance with the latest client, governmental and industry safety reporting initiatives. Providing corporate environmental engineers with data acquisition for reporting, permitting, etc.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health/Safety or a related field preferred
  • Four (4) – eight (8) years of industrial/manufacturing safety experience with general knowledge of environmental regulations, health/safety requirements and project management.
  • Requires knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and workers’ compensation regulations and practices
  • Requires the ability to read and interpret technical documents
  • Requires computer operation skills including, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, CAD and Oracle ERP
  • Requires experience using lean and continuous improvement methodology
  • Requires organizational skills and the ability to manage large amounts of information and data
  • Requires strong strategic thinking and business problem solving skills
  • Requires strong collaboration, interpersonal, communications and leadership skills and a demonstrated track record of making improvements that benefit the organizational results and customer
  • Position will require travel
