SALARY: $17.50/hr. PAY GRADE: 3

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Aquatic Organism Passage Technician (AOP Tech.) will assist the Tribal Ecologist and Hydrologist in completing work outlined in a Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) grant focused on improving aquatic organism passage throughout tribal land. This will include surveying sites, correctly sizing replacement culverts, monitoring installation, etc. The AOP Tech. will also assist in removing natural barriers when appropriate. This is a temporary position limited to up to 800 hours.


STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS:

All employees of Stockbridge Munsee Community must meet the following qualification:

  • Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug and health screening.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age, unless otherwise stated on job description
  • Must maintain an acceptable departmental attendance record
  • Must be able to work weekends, nights and holidays
  • Must obtain and maintain an elder/youth license.

DUTIES:

  • Assist in the design, construction and monitoring of road and trail stream crossings.
  • Maintain regular communication with Tribal Roads Department to schedule crossing installations.
  • Assist in removing natural barriers such as plugged culverts, beaver dams, water control structures, etc.
  • Assist with other Ecology Department duties when needed, such as but not limited to: surface water quality sampling, wetland monitoring, wetland delineation, electrofishing, invasive species removal, native prairie management, etc.
  • Assist with maintenance of a GIS Database for all hydrology activities, including:
    • Culvert/Bridge Inventory
    • Stream mapping
  • Complete weekly verbal discussions and provide monthly reports of accomplishments and problems and provide future work schedule to the Ecology Department Manager.
  • Must maintain an acceptable departmental attendance record.
  • Must be reliable and prompt when reporting to work.
  • May be required to attend job related, in-service, meetings, and training to maintain professional and technical knowledge.
  • Must adhere to tribal law and other applicable laws as well as tribal personnel policies and procedures.
  • May be required to satisfactorily complete an exam or other testing requirement(s) to determine skill proficiency.
