The Radiography Assistant Practitioner (AP) is a member of the direct imaging team who supports the Diagnostic Radiographers to meet the needs of patients attending the Radiology department. APs participate in the X-Ray service, imaging patients within their agreed scope of practice.

The post holder will undergo an apprenticeship to learn on the job clinical practice aspects of plain imaging and complete a Foundation Degree over two years.

A qualified AP is a B4 post and there will be scope to progress to a fully qualified diagnostic radiographer
  • To meet the educational requirements of the HEI enrolled with, with regard to course work and assessment
  • Learn to conduct, under the supervision of a practitioner radiographer or more senior staff, a specified range of uncomplicated general radiographic examinations upon a pre-defined range of patient types.
  • Learn the importance of the multidisciplinary team and be able to work alongside senior staff to assist in the efficient control of workflow patterns within the department.
