Job Summary

This position will be responsible for the assisting customers and caring for animals at the Chatham County Animal Resource Center. Duties will be centered around animal care and customer service. Duties associated with animal care include cleaning and disinfecting animal holding areas; feeding, watering, and grooming animals; monitoring animals for illness, disease, and/or injury; administering medication, vaccines and oral medication; evaluating animals for adoption potential; enrichment for animals in custody; assisting with euthanization and other related activities. In addition, this position will provide customer service by assisting customers in locating lost pets; checking in stray animals; selecting animals for adoption; facilitating tours and providing citizen and volunteer education and training. This position also assists in maintaining facility aesthetics, monitoring the security of facilities, and preparing a variety of files, records, reports, agreements, and logs and any other duties assigned by the Shelter Manager.

The ideal candidate will be able to grow in the job, developing competencies and responsibilities. This position does require working closely with a variety of animals who have assorted temperaments and in changing environments. Please Note: Some weekend work will be required.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent (GED) and three years of experience in handling or training animals, or experience as a veterinary technician; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Must possess excellent customer service skills. Formal technical or vocational training in veterinary science, animal care, or a related field is highly desirable and one year of experience in a kennel or vet environment is preferred.

Salary

Grade 54: $31,275
