Pregnancy & Adoption Specialist

DEPARTMENT: Family Support Services

HOURS/LEVEL: Full-Time, Case Manager 1 or 2

REPORTS TO: Director of Family Support Services

CLASSIFICATION: Hourly (Non-Exempt)

SUPERVISES: None

LOCATION: Hays, KS

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the Pregnancy Support and Adoption Services provided from the agency’s Hays office. Pregnancy Support (or Pregnancy Maintenance Initiative – aka PMI) involves helping mothers maintain a viable pregnancy and safely deliver a full-term, healthy infant by performing consistent case management from the time a mother enrolls in the program until six months post-delivery. Adoption services involves assisting prospective birth mothers and adoptive couples with the pre-adoption process through post placement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES

Pregnancy Support/Adoption Duties

  • PMI Case Management - Recruit and enroll pregnant women into PMI program; provide intakes, assessments, counseling, support, and resources for expectant mothers and/or couples; maintain and organize PMI files; work with community resources and partner agencies concerning parenting education, birthing classes, baby items and such other support.
  • Adoption Case Work - Provide birth moms and adoptive couples counseling and supportive services; conduct adoption interview, application assistance, home studies, placement assistant, post-placement support and case management as needed; educate and train prospective adoptive couples on agency procedures and adoption processes; handle Search and Reunion requests.
  • Administrative Duties - Prepare and maintain client records in accordance with agency procedures and applicable laws; attend regular PMI / Adoption department meetings, staff meetings and agency trainings; Assist with reporting requirements for both agency and grants.
  • Grants – Complete quarterly reports and submit to the Family Support Services Director by compiling data for new client enrollees, pre/post financials, client discharge statistics, and report on challenges/strengths that have been encountered in the PMI program.

Experience, Education, Skills, and Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field required. Master’s degree in Social Work or another Social Services field preferred.
  • Experience or understanding of grief and the loss for therapeutic and adoption purposes.
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds
  • Demonstrate a passion for the mission of Catholic Charities.
  • Willingness to abide by Catholic Social Teachings as it impacts carrying out the duties of this position.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to the CCNKS mission.
  • Organized, efficient, reliable, and detail-oriented with strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to collaborative teamwork and continuous improvement.
  • Skilled at and enthusiastic about building positive, professional relationships with key internal and external stakeholders. Ability to relate to people of diverse backgrounds, training, and experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills, especially in programs like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Desire to problem solve, think creatively, and seek out best practices.

TRAVEL

This position entails regular travel to the other Catholic Charities offices and to other communities within the Salina Diocese. These trips are generally accomplished during normal business hours Monday through Friday. There may be occasional overnight travel to professional conferences, meetings, or trainings.
