General Summary of Position


Pay range: $42 - $58 hourly


The incumbent in this position performs neuro and vascular interventional examinations in accordance with established protocols, as directed by the attending radiologist. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.


Minimum Qualifications
Education

  • Graduate of AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology.
  • Associate of Science in Radiologic Science
  • As part of their education, candidates must also demonstrate competency in didactic coursework and an ARRT-specified list of clinical procedures by completing competency requirements established for the discipline in which they are seeking certification and registration.
  • Experience

    • A minimum of six months hands-on training, and prior clincal experience.
    • Current experience in interventional angiography preferred.
    • Licenses and Certifications

      • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists RT (R).
      • CPR certification
      • Certification in Vascular Interventional (VI), Cardiac-Interventional (CI), Cardiovascular (CV) certification, or must be obtained within eighteen months of hire.
      • Associates must comply with the ARRT Rules and Regulation and the ARRT Standards of Ethics.
      • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

        • Must be familiar with and able to perform and/or learn the technical operations during such procedures as angiograms, angioplasties, embolizations, dilations, biopsies, fibrinolysis, venograms and myelograms.
        • Ability to work under stressful andemergent situations.
        • Primary Duties and Responsibilities

        • Adheres to the policies and procedures that apply to the performance of obtaining radiographic studies, including performing correct, exam, including laterality, on correct patient at the time requested. Prepares exam rooms assuring that all equipment and supplies are available prior to beginning each case.
        • Performs imaging sequences, digital in accordance with prescribed protocols utilizing the correct exposure techniques, interimage delays, contrast flow rates and patient I.D. markers in accordance with the policies on Universal Precautions, safety and waste disposal.
        • Assists in coordinating patient flow for the IR Lab with the Board Runner to maximize productivity and limit the patient wait before, during and after the procedure.
        • Coordinates and collaborates with Technical Aides to ensure efficient room turnover
        • Coordinates, communicates ,and collaborates with Patient Financial Associates that register radiology exams to minimize delays and potential safety issues for the outpatient population
        • Reviews billing codes to be utilized for each procedure with the Radiologist immediately after each case to ensure concurrence between the hospital and professional fees. Ensures timely completion of all exams through tracking, scanning and other technical work flow as related to Radiology Information System (RIS, Enterprise Radiology Solutions (ERS) and Enterprise Electronic Record (EMR).
        • Provides basic information to patients and/or families concerning procedures to be performed and is able to answer questions if asked.
        • Assists with the upkeep of interventional radiology equipment, adheres to all related safety requirements and reports need for equipment repairs.
        • Cleans equipment and work area, wipes down assigned equipment between cases and stocks and maintains supplies at identified inventory levels.
        • Assists the technical supervisor in the revision, development and implementation of lab policies, in-service programs and continuing educational programs that enhance the individual technologist's performance, and skills.
