Vaccination Policy: Per the City’s COVID19 Mandatory Vaccination Policy, the City requires all employees starting on or after February 11, 2022 to provide proof of vaccination as a condition of employment absent a documented medical and/or religious exemption. Proof of vaccination means that employees are required to be “up-to-date” with regards to the COVID-19 vaccine. Consistent with the Santa Clara County Public Health Order issued on December 28, 2021, "upto-date" means that employees are required to be vaccinated with the entire recommended initial series of a COVID-19 vaccine (two doses of the Pfizer, Moderna or Novavax COVID-19 vaccine or a single dose of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine).


Under the direction of the HHPZ Parks, Recreation, and Facilities Supervisor, the Amusement Park Supervisor performs work of moderate difficulty, with responsibility for the operations of an amusement park operated year-round and utilized by San José and Bay Area Residents. This is a highly visible City-wide facility and program with a focus on overseeing the amusement park operations at Happy Hollow Park & Zoo, including oversight of ride operations and safety; oversight of Guest Services including membership service, customer service, ride maintenance, volunteers, group sales, and special events. This position works 1 weekend day and some holidays.

Typical duties of the Amusement Park Supervisor include but are not limited to:


  • Directs, reviews, and approves the development, operation, revenue collection and expenditures for membership, admissions, group sales, parking, customer service, ride operations, office, and special activities.
  • Initiates, establishes and implements policies and procedures as they relate to amusement park operations.
  • Prepares reports, evaluations, memorandums, and correspondence as required.
  • Initiates, maintains, and develops effective working relationships with ground maintenance, park rangers, zoo staff, nonprofit support organizations, volunteers, and Community/School groups to foster good relations and encourage co-sponsorship of activities and events.
  • Directs, monitors, and approves expenditures as allocated in the budget.
  • Identifies and analyzes the service needs for a large geographic area with diverse communities and income levels.
  • Prepares and implements part time staff budgets for amusement park programs.
  • Recommends and helps develop operating budget revenue projections and expenditures and monitors spending for personal and non-personal services.
  • Supervises and assigns Full Time and Part Time staff, plans and coordinates training.
  • Creates work schedules and monitors work performance.
  • Recommends employment, retention, promotion, demotion, and completes performance evaluations.
  • Works with other co-workers, department staff and City departments to insure safer visitor and staff conditions.
  • Employs staff and coordinates the repair of buildings, grounds, and rides.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications


Education and Experience: Completion of 60 semester units/90 quarter units from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Social Science, Recreation and Leisure studies, or closely related field AND four (4) years of experience supervising the operations of a public or private concessions or a regional park or an amusement operations facility.


Acceptable Substitution A Bachelor’s degree in in Business Administration, Social Science, Recreation and Leisure studies, or closely related field from an accredited college or university, may be substituted for up to two (2) years of the required experience.


Required Licensing (such as driver’s license, certifications, etc.)

  • Possession of an AIMS International Associate Ride Inspector Certification - Level 1 is highly desirable.
  • As a condition of employment in some designated positions, possession of valid State of California Class A or B driver's license with applicable endorsements may be required in the performance of job duties.
