Inspire the next generation of scientists! As a Mad Science Teacher, you will lead students through inquiry-based instruction; leading demonstrations and facilitating hands-on activities during our After School Programs.

Our Spring Programs start the first week of April. We have 3 positions open in the following zones: Freeport/Brunswick, South Berwick/Eliot, and Gorham

Part-time After School Teacher positions are available for candidates who:

  • Have some experience teaching groups of children ages 5-11
  • Are seeking a fun and easy way to make a supplemental income
  • Love teaching or what more experience teaching
  • Have at least 2-3 weekday afternoons available after approximately 2:45pm (Some day programs available if your schedule works)
  • Are outgoing and have a fun personality
  • Have a Valid Driver’s License and A Reliable Car

As a Mad Science After School Teacher/Instructor, you will facilitate 3 to 5 Mad Science Programs at schools in your area for an 8 week long session for K-5th Grade students. Each program is an hour long and will require additional time for set up and clean up before and after class. As our programs happen during after school hours, you will visit a max of five schools per week depending on your availability. Each week, you will teach a different fun, hands-on science class to your groups of kids.

ABOUT TRAINING – We set our Mad Science After-School Teachers up for success with a paid 4 hour Orientation and 5 hour paid Training on the curriculum and awesome gear that is used to facilitate our fun hands-on programs! This mandatory training will give you the basics you need to translate your skills into being a "Mad Scientist." We provide a program manual and training videos for our instructors to get familiar with the curriculum prior to our in person Orientation and Training.

PROGRAM LOCATIONS - We facilitate our 25-45 AfterSchool programs in various schools and recreation centers. We will try to keep you within 10-15 miles of your home. Travel reimbursement is provided when driving beyond 5 miles of your home.

Requirements

  • Must have at least a High School DiplomaTeaching Degree or College Degree is highly desirable but not required. (Especially a degree in education or science)
  • Must have experience working with or teaching groups of children at a school, camp or after school program setting.(paid or volunteer).
  • Must be able to manage, educate, and entertain a classroom of up to 20 children (ages 5-11) at a time without an assistant.
  • Must have a reliable vehicle. Must have a valid driver's license and current proof of automobile insurance.
  • Must be available between the hours of 2:15 - 4:30pm Monday-Friday for at least 2 afternoons per week.
  • Must be able and willing to travel a 15-30 minute drive to get to a program location.
  • Classroom/Group Management skills are a must. Lively, Energetic, child-friendly personality.

Benefits

  • $35-$50 per one-hour class. (With set up and tear down it averages between $25-$38 per hour. Raises are given to teachers based on performance).
  • $80 Training Stipend for each 8 Week After School Session. This includes a 4-5 hour in-person training and 1-2 hours at-home reading through curriculum manual and watching training videos.
  • A $100 initial sign-on bonus is offered for after 8 week after school session.
  • Travel Compensation is provided when traveling out of normal commuting
  • There are more opportunities as we expand into Maine and NH and recover from the pandemic.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $22.00 - $38.00 per hour
