Summary

Responsible for the operational and educational support and training activities of a community-based Adult Day Center (ADS). The ADS Assistant Director works directly with the ADS Director and may fill in for their duties when needed. This position requires overseeing ADS functions and education requirements mandated by the Department of Social Services. Ensure that the quality of employee performance is consistent with the employee education which is offered. Responsible for developing training which enhances the knowledge and skills of the department’s staff. Provides health care assessment and focuses upon assisting the participant toward an optimum level of health independence and self-care. The Assistant Director acts as liaison to the participant’s physician and assists in obtaining necessary medical services from outside providers.

Essential Functions

· Develop Operational and Educational goals, strategies and plans consistent with the Center’s mission in conjunction with the ADS Director.

· Maintain monthly reports on operational and educational accomplishments.

· Assist in assessing the strengths and weaknesses of both Centers in the areas of operations and delivering services to the market.

· Provide written reports on operations and educational activities and results related to employee performance targets.

· Conduct new hire orientation, interview, and onboarding alongside the ADS Director.

· Conduct or facilitate continuing educational unit requirements as required by DSS.

· Maintain an up-to-date and accurate record of trainee progress and achievements.

· Schedule training sessions to minimize disruption to normal work schedules and evaluate the outcomes.

· Communicate the correct information and handling of any questions from trainees.

· Oversee and monitor operational costs against budgets.

· Develop, implement, and regularly review medical program component goals.

· Able to fill in and conduct initial nursing assessment at time of application if staff is not available; establish objectives to improve or maintain level of physical functioning and evaluate regularly, charting results.

· Able to fill in and develop Individuals Care Plans and leads review of Care Plans, including desired outcomes for assuring quality of service as needed.

· Able to fill in and manage medication, including administering and recording prescribed medication supplied by the participants.

· Provide nursing care normally performed by licensed nurses such as first aid, dressing changes, and other miscellaneous duties as needed.

· Establish procedures for emergency care which are dependent on the nurse’s technical knowledge and professional judgment.

· Supervise Activity/CNA staff, volunteers, and students in health-related areas, including dietary restrictions, by observation, discussion, and instruction.

· Coordinate purchase and storage of health, medical and sanitary supplies.

· Able to fill in and maintain accurate health records which meet licensing/policy requirements of all funding sources.

· Responsible for safety practices including employee & participant safety, fire drills and related documentation.

Education and Experience

· BSRN or Bachelor’s Degree with LPN certification preferred

· Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. Currently licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse.

· Certification in first aid issued within the past three years, or immediately upon employment, from a source approved by the American Red Cross must be maintained.

· Certification in cardiovascular pulmonary resuscitation issued through the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association must be obtained and maintained.

· Food Handler and infection control training must be completed, and knowledge of current practices maintained throughout employment.

· One-year experience working with the impaired elderly or equivalent is required

· Good communication skills, including the ability to communicate sensitive information with empathy (“bedside manner”)

· Above average oral and written communication skills

Other

· Employee must be free of tuberculosis in a communicable form.

· Employee must pass Criminal History check

· Fully Vaccinated

· Negative COVID-19 Test at least 72 hours prior to start date

· This position is full-time weekdays with paid annual, sick and holiday leave.

· Able to travel between the two locations in Norfolk and Virginia Beach

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $35,000.00 - $43,000.00 per year
