Job Summary:

An admissions employee is responsible for performing a variety of duties to prepare and maintain the aquatic park and the surrounding area for the demands of the group present. General duties include; acting as a public relations representative, using a point of sale screen to sell various items including but not limited to memberships, daily admission and swim accessories, registering patron for classes and memberships, knowing emergency procedures, answering phones, assisting in birthday party and group trips and cash handling. This position also aids in cleaning of the water park and surrounding area. This is an at-will position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Gain knowledge and understanding of Park District policies and procedures and see that they are adhered to at all times.
  • Attend district-wide part-time staff orientations, crisis trainings and office staff trainings as directed.
  • Comply with the District’s Dress Code by coming to work in clean, presentable clothing and/or uniform.
  • Perform Admissions duties.
  • Assist in opening and closing duties of the water park as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness of Front Gate area.
  • Sell daily admission passes.
  • Register guests for water park memberships and well as swim lessons.
  • Operate a cash register and credit card terminal.
  • Operate computer software system, registration, and have a basic understanding of computer skills.
  • Answer phones and handle guest comments, questions and concerns.
  • Provide information about water park policies to guests.
  • Clean staff bathrooms and perform other various cleaning duties.
  • Provide a safe, healthy, enjoyable experience for all guests by; enforcing ice rules in a firm, pleasant way, being helpful and friendly to patrons, and being aware and alert at all times while on the job.
  • Assist in birthday party set up.
  • Assist in checking groups in to the park.
  • Be aware of park codes and able to use them appropriately.
  • Act in a mature, responsible way in all aspects of the job.
  • Complete and submit all required records and reports to the manager in a timely manner.
  • When sick, try to secure a qualified substitute. Notify management at least one hour prior to the start of your scheduled shift.
  • Be flexible regarding scheduling of hours due to rentals,special events, etc.
  • Attend and be responsible for information presented at meetings.
  • Adhere to time clock procedures and keep accurate and neat record of time worked.
  • Be responsible for the security of personal belongings left in the facility.
  • Remain at the assigned duty station while on duty.
  • Assist with daily maintenance as directed by the managers or those persons acting in authority.
  • Observe and follow all Park District safety policies and regulations. The safety of staff and participants is a continuing responsibility of all employees.
  • The District encourages its employees to “take ownership” of the District. As such, it shall be the responsibility of all Park District employees to pick up litter throughout the buildings, grounds, and facilities of the District.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Be polite to patrons and fellow employees, and use a pleasant tone of voice.

  • Must be punctual and dependable.
  • Should possess enthusiasm and drive with a desire to accomplish goals and objectives.
  • Should be able to work in a team atmosphere, as necessary, promoting positive and effective

working relationships with staff, volunteers and external customers.

Cognitive Considerations:

  • Employee must be able to follow directions and communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
  • Employee must have the ability to read and understand materials printed in English.
  • Employee must possess good problem solving skills and have the capacity to act rationally and calmly in high stress and/or emergency situations.
  • Employee must be able to represent the Kankakee Valley Park District in a professional manner.
  • Employee must have the ability to make judgments with respect to confidentiality of information.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, some bending, kneeling and reaching items off floor and high shelves is required. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Performing repetitive hand/arm movements as in sweeping or cleaning the arena. Strong voice in order to be heard over noise. Reading hand written information and writing legibly. Ability to handle stress in order to cope with deadlines. The employee must lift and/or move up to 50lbs.

Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but may be exposed to noise distractions from employees or patrons. Employee may work indoors in a smoke-free environment with cold temperatures, warm temperatures, and fluorescent lighting. Employee must park in parking lot approximately one block from the building.
