Job Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Public Safety this position independently oversees the day-to-day administrative operations of the Public Safety Unit and supports the Assistant Vice President and four Public Safety department heads. This position is a contributing member of the leadership team and is responsible for managing office operations and providing administrative support. In addition, the incumbent in this position is key in determining methods to meet program goals of day-to-day operations for parking and police, effectively advising senior management and the campus community on compliance with various public safety issues, regulations, policies, and procedures, and carries out the operational details necessary in often highly visible campus activities. Responsibilities require the ability to use appreciable judgment to proceed on own initiative while complying with policies, practices and procedures of the department and university.

This is a full benefitted, 6 month position with the possibility of extension

Department Summary

Under the administration of the Assistant Vice President of Public Safety, the Public Safety Unit is responsible for the safety, health, and well-being of the University community. The Public Safety Unit is comprised of four departments: Cal Poly Police Department (CPPD), Department of Emergency Management (DEM), Transportation and Parking Services (TAPS), and Public Safety Business Services.

Key Qualifications

Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
Thorough knowledge of and ability to apply extensive expertise to complex programs and/or administrative specialties, including pertinent laws and regulations.
Demonstrated expertise in and advanced knowledge of the principles, problems, and methods of public and business administration and operational management.
Expertise in administrative survey techniques, operations, system, and program analysis, statistical and research methods, and the ability to interpret and evaluate results to develop sound conclusions and recommend new or revised policies.
Ability to understand problems from a broad, interactive perspective and discern applicable underlying principles to conceive of and develop strategic solutions.
Education and Experience

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university. Four years of technical or administrative experience. A graduate degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, DEGREES, CREDENTIALS: Possession of a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain by date of hire; must possess or be willing to obtain a Notary Public certification.

Salary and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Range: $5,833 - $7,917 monthly

Classification Range: $5,022 - $9,083 monthly
