Job Summary:

The Adjunct Instructor assists faculty in instructing and guiding students in understanding subject matter and developing skills while encouraging and supporting students’ positive academic and social growth.The Adjunct Instructor serves as a substitute teacher in the event that a teacher is unable to lead class.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide instructional support to students under the supervision of a teacher.
  • Support student academic needs, and behavioral/class management needs.
  • Review lessons & concepts previously taught by the teacher with students as necessary.
  • Support test accommodations/modifications as a reader and/or scriber.
  • Assist students in the use of assistive technology / instructional resources.
  • Support a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals through support as assigned by the teacher
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Preview and follow the curriculum and lesson plan as provided by the absent teacher or the lead teacher.
  • Assist the faculty and administration in implementing all policies and procedures governing student life and conduct.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Demonstrate employee responsibilities in completing duties accurately and promptly.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to recognize issues students are facing and recommend solutions.
  • Oversee students during non-classroom times including in-between classes, and on-field excursions.
  • Attend all assigned or required professional development activities.
  • Take attendance, complete grade, and other reports as required by the school
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the time assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • The ability to work with students and adults in a positive manner.
  • Possess effective oral and written communication skills.
  • The ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to build and maintain relationships with colleagues that supports a cooperative work environment.
  • The ability to handle and maintain the confidentiality of student,employee, and other sensitive school information.
  • The ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
