Seaside Arts Center is multi-disciplinary arts school based in Carmel Valley teaching dance, theater, voice, and visual arts. At Seaside Arts Center, we cultivate artists for life. The Adapted Arts Educator is an experienced instructor with youth arts education knowledge and experience working with students with disabilities. The Adapted Arts Educator works closely with the Artistic/Executive Director, the Director of Operations, the Development Coordinator and Grant Writer, and other Adapted Arts Educators to design and implement Art & Heart, a multi-disciplinary arts program, inclusively designed for students with special needs. This is a part time position.

Art & Heart is a multi-disciplinary arts program for children ages 3-10 years old, inclusive of students with mild-to-moderate and moderate-to-severe disabilities. This program provides adapted arts enrichment in a fun, safe, and supportive environment, through visual arts, music, reading, and dance! Artists will leave this class with increased sense of belonging and community, self-awareness and empathy skills, self-confidence, and joy in the arts.

This position is required to perform all tasks necessary to teach a children’s adapted arts class, including lesson planning engaging arts classes inclusive of dance/movement, visual art, music, and literacy; integrating social and emotional learning themes throughout classes; development of age-appropriate, multi-disciplinary arts activities for each class; adaptations and modifications to activities to meet students’ needs; communication with families regarding students’ abilities, strengths, needs, and progress; collaborating with colleagues who co-teach the class; and ongoing instruction within the class and reflection of the program.

The Adapted Arts Educator works to ensure the highest quality arts education delivery happens while Seaside’s organizational values are upheld. The Adapted Arts Educator must be trained in one or more area of the arts, such as dance, yoga, creative movement, visual art, music, or theatre; must be highly collaborative, an effective communicator, and detail-oriented; and must be a good listener, patient, communicate well with children, and maintain an asset-based approach.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

  • Prepare lesson plans for weekly assigned classes inclusive of multi-disciplinary arts.
  • Adapt lesson activities to meet the needs of all learners with a diverse set of cognitive and physical needs.
  • Teach weekly assigned classes upholding Seaside Arts Center’s core values and maintaining a safe and inclusive environment for special needs learners with diverse needs.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on lesson planning, teaching, and reflecting on the Art & Heart program.

Required Qualifications (Experience, Skills & Abilities)

  • Must be available Saturday mornings.
  • Background in one or more arts or arts education fields, such as dance, yoga, music, theatre, and/or visual art.
  • 2-3 years experience teaching an arts discipline to youth.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities and knowledge of appropriate adaptations to meet students’ needs.
  • Knowledge of social and emotional learning and ability to integrate SEL themes into arts activities.
  • Ability to manage a classroom of students and adapt teaching to all ages and abilities.
  • Friendly, welcoming and collaborative personality with a growth mindset approach.
  • Reliable transportation with current car insurance
  • DOJ/FBI background check will be done for this position

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $35.00 - $50.00 per hour
