Recruitments for County positions are typically conducted to establish eligibility lists to fill countywide vacancies that occur during the active status of those lists (approximately 3 -12 months). LIcensing and Certifications:

Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid California driver's license.

Licensing and Certifications:

Two (2) years of work experience in performing financial, statistical, treasury support, tax collection support, payroll, collections, and/or document processing at a level comparable to that of an Accounting Technician or Accounting Technician – Auditor I with the County of Lake.

ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN – AUDITOR I

DEFINITION
Under general supervision, to perform a variety of the more complex, specialized account, statistical, document processing, auditing, and technical record keeping and support work; to review fiscal records, applications, or specialized documents and information, assisting the public and/or other County staff with the accuracy and completeness of the information; to assist others with the understanding of procedures and requirements of the department, which may include the Auditor-Controller’s Office or Treasurer-Tax Collector’s Office; to provide a variety of information, services and functions of the department about services and functions; to perform a variety of advanced technical and office support work; and to do related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is an advanced, specialized working level classification for performing a variety of the more complex, specialized financial, statistical, auditing, and document processing work for the department.
The Accounting Technician - Auditor I class is distinguished from the Accounting Technician class in that the Accounting Technician – Auditor I classification is responsible for reviewing/auditing the work of other County staff. In addition, incumbents may be responsible for the establishment and maintenance of one or more systems of accounting activity.
Positions in the Accounting Technician - Auditor series are flexibly staffed. Incumbents may advance to the higher classifications after gaining the knowledge, skill, experience, licenses, and certifications which meet the qualifications for and demonstrating the ability to perform the work of the higher-level class.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from supervisory and/or management staff, depending on areas of work assignments. Exercises no supervision over staff. May provide lead direction, work coordination, and training to technical staff, as assigned.

  • Maintains a variety of statistical or other specialized records, posting and updating information to keep records current and accurate.
  • Verify purchase orders and purchasing information.
  • Maintain work and time records.
  • Balance cash received, verify receipts, and prepare deposits.
  • Assist with the development and control of budget information.
  • Prepares accounting data, financial records and reports.
  • Assist with payroll functions.
  • Reconciles information problems and ensures the accuracy of a variety of records.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


Knowledge of:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of financial and statistical record keeping, document acceptance and processing requirements, and/or information system maintenance related to the department or work unit assigned.
  • In-depth understanding of the policies, laws, rules, and regulations impacting the operations, transactions, and functions of the department and the County accounting functions.
  • Good public relations techniques.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is the advanced journey-level position in the Accounting Technician - Auditor series. Incumbents perform a variety of the most complex, specialized financial, statistical, auditing, and document processing work requiring substantial knowledge of the policies, procedures, and special requirements of the department.
Incumbents are normally assigned primary program, fiscal, and technical support assignments for assigned function(s) in the department..
This class is distinguished from Accounting Technician – Auditor I by the level and degree of special program support work and the possible assignment of lead worker and work coordination responsibilities. Incumbents are expected to have the knowledge and capability to perform assignments and provide assistance outside of their specialized work area.

RETIREMENT - County employees are members of the California Public Employee Retirement system (CalPERS). CalPERS provides a defined benefit pension at retirement for County employees. The pension formulas and employee contribution amounts may vary by bargaining unit, date of hire, prior qualifying service, and classification. Please contact Human Resources for more information.

HEALTH AND INSURANCE BENEFITS - Medical, dental, hospital, vision, life and disability coverage is available to employees and their dependents. The County contributes $1,000 of the monthly premiums for the insurance plan options.

VACATION ACCRUAL may be adjusted for current city or county government employees.

VACATION – 80 hours per year during the first five years of service, 120 hours per year after five years, and additional accruals based on years of service beyond fifteen years. Pro-rated for part-time employees.

SICK LEAVE - Accrues at a rate of 96 hours per year. Pro-rated for part-time employees.

HOLIDAYS- An average of twelve paid 8-hour holidays per year. Pro-rated for part-time employees.

SALARY - Lake County has an adopted salary schedule. The salary range for most classifications is in five increments with a provision for longevity increases. Appointments are normally made at the first step of the salary range.

SOCIAL SECURITY - County employees participate in Social Security.

CALIFORNIA STATE DISABILITY INSURANCE – SDI is available to some County employees.

DEFERRED COMPENSATION PLANS and CREDIT UNION MEMBERSHIPS are available to County employees.
