About WBENC

The Women’s Business Enterprise National Council, Inc. (WBENC) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that certifies women-owned businesses and advocates for their position in corporate and government supply chains. In addition to certification, WBENC provides educational and networking opportunities to our network throughout the year. WBENC hosts an annual National Conference to facilitate networking between women-owned businesses and corporate and government supply chains. Position Description

The Accounting Clerk is primarily responsible for the accurate and timely invoicing of customers and payment of vendors. The position requires a candidate who pays great attention to detail and who has excellent communication skills. The Accounting Clerk will also assist with a variety of accounting and finance tasks that support the financial reporting of WBENC.

1. Accounts Receivable: Manages the customer invoicing process. Issues invoices, adjusts and reissues invoices (as needed), and completes all vendor setup forms as requested by our customers. Maintains the list of special invoicing requirements and ensures that all invoices are accurate and submitted in the appropriate manner. Maintains organized and appropriate documentation of all invoicing. Communicates frequently and professionally with customers and with WBENC’s Business Development department.

2. Accounts Payable: Assists the Senior Accountant with the accounts payable process by setting up new vendors in the accounting system, processing weekly payments in the accounting system, and maintaining and filing all documentation.

3. Credit Card Payments: Processes customer credit card payments using PayPal and maintains appropriate documentation of all transactions.

4. Expense Reporting: Assists the CEO by completing her expense reports each month.

5. Travels to WBENC’s National Conference each year and assists the Events team with the on-site execution of the event. In addition, may be asked to travel to one or two smaller events each year.

6. Performs other duties as assigned by the Senior Accountant and or the Assistant Controller.

7. Since WBENC is a small organization and the invoicing cycle is seasonal, the Accounting Clerk may be asked to assist with projects in other departments during the months when Accounting needs are reduced.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not have supervisory responsibility.

Work Environment

This position is a hybrid work situation. Most of the role’s tasks may be performed remotely from a home office, however the candidate must be able to come into the main office in Washington, D.C. on an as-needed basis (typically 3-4 days per month).

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

This role requires a mixture of sedentary work and actively traveling and assisting with WBENC events. This would require the ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods, walk extensively, and lift up to 50 lbs. The person in this position communicates frequently with all departments within the organization as well as business partners outside of the organization and must be able to reason through problems and communicate accurate information.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, and hours of work are generally Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST. However, hours will vary depending on projects, events and travel.

Travel

This position requires minimal travel. The individual will be expected to travel one to three times per year, all within the United States.

Education and Experience

1. High school diploma required; two-year degree in a relevant field preferred.

2. One to five years of experience in a finance or accounting role preferred.

3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Outlook and Excel preferred.

4. Experience with Sage Intacct is desirable.

Pay: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
