THE POSITION


Washington County Sheriff's Office is looking for a Senior Accounting Assistant to join their Business Administration team. The Business Administration team provides support to the other divisions of the Sheriff's Office and Jail, providing centralized purchasing, inventory management, receivables, HR liaison coordination, timekeeping and payroll, payables, contract and budget management.

The Opportunity!
This position provides an essential function of fiscal responsibility in the Sheriff's Office purchasing and financial management. Senior Accounting Assistants are the first line of support to staff for Purchasing Card transactions; ensuring staff is provided with direction on transaction compliance and proper documentation and approval. They coordinate all purchasing of goods from Sheriff's Office Law Enforcement, Administration, and Services Programs. They also handle travel and training reimbursements for the Sheriff's Office. These tasks require significant daily monitoring, execution and communication by the incumbent to Sheriff's Office staff, County staff and vendors/contractors.

The ideal candidate will have excellent customer service attitude and a willingness to help others. The candidate will have exceptional communication skills, verbally and written. Having the ability to prioritize work based on deadlines and need are essential. General knowledge of local government purchase requirements would be beneficial.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:


  • Possession of an Associate's Degree in accounting, business, or related field AND two (2) or more years of work experience related to accounting, bookkeeping, or fiscal management; OR
  • Accounting Certificate (12 months) AND three (3) or more years of work experience related to accounting, bookkeeping, or fiscal management; OR
  • Five (5) or more years of work experience related to accounting, bookkeeping, or fiscal management.
ADDITIONAL LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, PHYSICAL ABILITIES AND SPECIALTY REQUIREMENTS
  • Will be required to pass a drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Some positions may be required to possess a valid driver's and have an acceptable driving record per Washington County policy.

This is a non-represented position and is not covered by a collective bargaining agreement.

Regular and limited duration full-time employees working 30 hours or more per week and job share employees are eligible for benefits beginning on the first of the month following employment. Job share employees are responsible for 50% of the premium. Part-time regular, variable hour, and temporary positions are not eligible for medical, dental, and vision benefits.
