The Center for Advising & Student Achievement at the University of Indianapolis is accepting applications for an Academic Advisor position at the University of Indianapolis. The Academic Advisor is responsible for communicating curriculum requirements and changes to undergraduate students. The Academic Advisor confers with faculty, administrators, and professional staff to discuss the academic and behavioral circumstances of students, in order to better support their academic success. Advisors guide students to resources to explore majors, create academic plans, and learn about services and programs. The Academic Advisor is committed to being accessible to students, especially during peak advising cycles. Thus, alternative or extended office hours may be necessary. The Advisorwill have general knowledge of all academic curricula, but will advise specific academic student populations.The assignment of majors is reviewed cyclically. This position reports to the Director of Advising.

Responsibilities- Academic Advisor
Essential Functions
- Explain curriculum requirements to undergraduate students
- Describe academic policies and processes
- Assist students with course selection and course registration
- Perform graduation audits and verify degree requirements
- Collaborate with faculty and department chairs of assigned majors
- Be knowledgeable about transfer credit
- Maintains accurate and complete student records as required by laws, policies, and administrative
regulations
- Manage inter-office and inter-departmental communications regarding student progress
- Adhere to confidentiality as outlined in FERPA
Non-Essential Functions
- Serve on campus committees related to academic support, student success and retention.
- Follow up with students regarding delayed or absent registration
- Target communications to special student populations (athletes, probation, financial aid recipients, etc)
Qualifications- Academic Advisor
- Bachelor's degree is required (graduate degree in higher education or a related field is preferred)
- Minimum of one year of experience in a student- or client-centered environment is required; two years of experience in an academic setting is preferred
- Two years of experience in an academic setting is preferred. Experience working with regular deadlines and competency with an administrative system is required.
- Experience using a student records database is preferred.
